Another protein question
In looking for different sources of protein - cos it's just so darn hard to get 70g of protein shakes down in a day - I found a source of liquid protein that has 15g of protein per 1oz. It says it's good for bariatric patients and it comes in various flavours. I'm not getting much protein from the few solid foods I am able to eat right now so I rely on those protein shakes. I'm really only looking for a way to supplement the protein requirements my dietician said I need.

It's a collegen protein, not whey isolate. We need whey isolate for max good and absorption. You have to be careful about those protein shot things, many are the wrong kind of protein and although they say they have a lot of protein, if you can't use it, why spend the money.
Try mixing it with less water so you don't have to drink so much. Also try different temps. Warm was easier for me. You can mix unflavored into lots of foods.
I love my decaf protein coffee and my shakes but many folks have to work into them.

Generally the concentrated proteins are made from collegan. Some people will tell you that we get nothing from them. They do have a low PDCAAS score because they are not a complete protein. But, if they aren't your only source of protein, I think you should be fine. They definitely use those kinds of proteins in the hospital for people on IVs and they do work to keep protein levels up.
I know a few people *****ally got into the "shots" and they did great post-op.

My Bariatric Team is not fond of the protein shots so I didn't even research them.
In the beginning, we all know there is no way to get in the total protein and water that we need. The 70 oz. and 84? oz. of water are our goal, not what we're going to be able to get in to start with. Let your pouch heal and it'll get easier as you go along.
I get 40 ounces of protein in by mixing a heaping scoop of protein powder with 4 oz. of Fage 0% Greek Yogurt. It tastes like a dessert and might make your protein req's easier to hit. :-)
Hang in there!

Hey Kim, the only yogurt I buy now is the quart size, non-flavored "FAGE Total 0%" I think it's the blue label that is fat-free and sugar free (no sweeteners). In addition to be able to substitute half yogurt for half the mayo called for in recipes, I get to flavor it however *I* want to. ;-)
I'm sure you can mix any protein powder flavor you like into it. I make it a bit thick and really savor the flavor and it's sooo good for me. heh heh I'm personally hooked on Syntrax Nectar and a couple of Syntrax Matrix flavors. The Matrix is a sustained release blend which, when I eat it mixed with yogurt last thing in the evening, really sticks with me to prevent the night hungries. For my "dessert" I use the Matrix Orange Cream (can you say Dreamsicle?) and the Chocolate Mint (can you say Girl Scouts??) With the regular Nectar, I combine my jugs of Twisted Cherry and Fuzzy Navel to make the mix I use for my 2nd daily shake... and the combo is a good, non overbearing, flavor for the "dessert" too!
OH, you can also mix SF dry instant pudding mixes with yogurt. Had you tried that? Tastes okay (It was GREAT until I tried the protein powder flavors. LOL) and is awesome if you are just needing about 18 gms to add to your protein intake.
I'm wanting to try some of that cinnamon roll powder Price reviewed!!!!!
Have no fear and experiment with gay abandon! Report back with your findings! LOL
