Children's Book 'Maggie Goes on a Diet' Causes Stir

Between the author and the publisher, have they lost their collective MIND????

This book is just SO wrong in so many ways.

At 10, my mother did not put me on a diet.  She put me on a swim team, as I loved to swim. Two-a-day workouts totalling 3+miles will shed a lot of weight.

And making a media stir is even worse.  Now the book will get a lot of attention and people will buy it.  If the media did not keep the topic going the book probably wouldn't have sold.  At least, I like to think so.

Haven't read the book and don't care to but why wasn't it "Maggie Learns to Eat Right"?  Or "Maggie Learns About Nutrition"?
I was put on Weigh****chers when I was 13.  A diet.  I weighed a whopping 132lbs at the time and my mother was mortified.  I got down to 117lbs and graduated.  And regained all the weight plus more in months because I didn't learn a thing other then to deprive myself to get to my goal and then celebrate.  If Maggie really has a weight problem, like the other person said, she should be put on a sports team, not a diet.  She should be taught how to cook with healthy foods instead of junk.  Maybe learn how to shop to prepare those meals.  Anything but a diet.  The worse thing in the world for an overweight person is a diet.

When I was in 3rd grade, I remember my mother putting a half sandwich and carrots in my lunch. I guess, I have always been on a diet.

OT: When I was in First grade, I would get a small piece of candy in my lunch, and when someone took my candy, my father put Ex-Lax in the wrapper. My candy never disappeared again.
