Hernia - Happy Birthday to Me

Amy, I am sorry your birthday was ruined but on the flip side, at least you are getting the hernia fixed so quickly...those things can be dangerous and even kill you if left unattended...listening to your body say, I HURT, and heading to the ER, even as bad as it was, was the best thing you did.

Thanks, Liz.  It was my first visit to ER ever.  I've been lucky!  I hated the whole experience but I am so glad that I went.  If I had waited, I would not be getting fixed on Monday.

Who knows, I might even lose some weight from the liquid diet, although I am having crab bisque for dinner tonight.  I can only drink so many protein shakes in a day!

Best,
Amy

I had an internal hernia last fall but mine was alot more complicated because I also had  a bowel obstruction at the same time causing mine to be emergency surgery - a few hours later, as soon as I could get to my surgeons hospital.

I do hope yours goes well - good luck.

How scary!  I am glad that you are okay.  I know that hernias can become strangulated or incarcerated leading to a crisis.  I am hunkering down until my surgery on Monday - not tempting the fates.  How long did it take for you to recover?

Thanks.
Amy

Please don't go by me.  Mine was much more complicated than yours and much more involved. I really don't want to scare you.  I am not going to go into details but mine involved 4 surgeries in all over 5 months - bowel obstruction with internal for the first one, then  1 week later had perforated colen and became septic so needed more surgery that was a 2 part over 3 days including an iliostomy and G tube - in hospital for  2months.  Then 3 months later had the iliostomy reversed.  G tube in for 5 months.  My bowels still haven't gone back to normal and I still have pain - surgeries were Oct. 26, Nov, 8, Nov. 11 and Feb. 15.

I am sure yours will go fine.  Yours isn't  an emergency and you aren't severely constipated - that made mine much more complicated - I was totally backed up.

Good luck and please keep me posted.
