An earthquake and hurricane in 1 week is more then I can handle!!!  The Casino's in Atlantic City are shutting down, all roads going in to the shores are shutdown and people are trying to get the hell out of dodge.   I am about and hour away but up the I-95 Corrider that they are predicting she is headed.  We have buttoned down the hatch and are well stocked....just keeping my fingers crossed.  They are now predicting she will be here around 4 AM Sunday morning... Everyone stay safe!!!  Will check in when I can.   oh and in case I can not post on Sunday...stressed out and weight is down to 145...only good news I have right now.....wishing I had Xanax...lol!

I think the most interesting part of this whole thing is they are shutting down the New York City subway tomorrow afternoon in preparation for this storm.  Those people have NO way to leave without the subway or busses or trains.

Oh yeah!  Keep a low profile!!!

The storm is supposedto directly hit the waterfront house we're buying ! YIKES ! Thank God ( I guess , Maybe ..). that we havent closed on iit yet .

I think it will most likely be fine since it withstood other hurricanes just fine in the last 80 years - however I am expecting a big rise in the water table ( and water in the basement ) from the storm surge . And of course the french drain is probably going to knock out due to the power outage .. and needless to say the bank scheduled the appraisal on TUESDAY the day after the storm !!!'

The last storm we had ( 2 weeks ago ) with eight nches of rain , the roof on the BROOKLYN house started leaking in ten diferent places so today I spread 5 HUGE cans of flashing asphalt all around every seam and crack ... 11 hours worth of work ...

praying it holds ! Mini me says wet fur isn't fun !

Hi Gina,
Thanks for thinking of me.  My first empty 5 gallon protein bucket now holds dog food and is in the packed Highlander, waiting with 5 gallons of water just in case we must evacuate early this morning.   We are the only Maryland county, St. Mary's, under a hurricane watch.  If you check googlemaps with this link, you can see the general area where we live.  I live in the Southern portion of St. Mary's County, you can see how close most of us are to Chesapeake Bay and the water.    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=+N+38%C2%B0+11\'+16.8211%22+W+ 76%C2%B0+30\'+1.9775%22&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=38.186387,-76.49780 3&spn=2.132871,3.510132&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=34.39686 6,56.162109&vpsrc=6&z=8

I have everyone who is in the East Coast Irene path in my prayers, and I'm constantly thinking "further east, out to sea!"

We've completed our preparations, having picked up and either stored or tied down everything that could become airborne (except the rocks in my garden) . I've go****er stored in several places, food cooked, canned goods packed in a convenient tote, ice in coolers, car packed and gassed up in case we must evac, etc etc.  All I have to do now is pull the sleeping bag down from the attic and hope my friend has room in her basement for my husband, our two labradoodles, and I.

While I LOVE my home, at times like this, I wish I had one room without a window.... The glorious thing about my place is light streams in from a couple compass points for most rooms of the house, but right now that's a drawback as we have no place to avoid flying glass.  The sole room in the house that I can create a safe haven is in the laundry room bathtub and toilet area, if I open the door I can block the glass from the window in the rest of the room from the bathtub area. Unfortunately, that space is in the corner of two exterior walls.

We anticipate that the bad weather will arrive noonish to 3 pm today, and by Sunday at the same time, the skies should be blue again.  I'm praying that I can't see those skies from any room of the house, and that we remain air and rain tight! Last tropical storm we lost several trees although none fell on the house. That was a miracle as we live nestled between two woods, with a sloped clearing behind us.

Swing lizards for all us folk awaiting Irene, who I pray turns right real soon.
