Folks along the east coast, please check in
Hi Everyone,
Hurricane Irene has devastated much of our county. The dam in our area was breached, and flooded many homes. Hundreds of homes have trees on/in roofs. Flash floods caused tremendous damage, including many washed out roads in our rural area. I cannot remember how many people have said their cars were flattened by trees. Thousands of people remain without power. Many businesses are still not open, losing thousands in revenue.
Our little home on the hill, and all our trees..... just fine. It was like God put a protective bubble around us. Whoever prayed for us, thank you very much.
We spent the night in our neighbor's basement. On Sunday morning, I was walking one of our dogs home from there. On the road, I slipped on a gum ball, twisted my ankle, then went airborne. On the way down, I remember thinking "Wow, those are my feet in front of my face!" Long story short, it must have been adrenalin, because I got up, went home, applied arnica, pan-away and wintergreen essential oils, wrapped my ankle, tied my tennis shoe really tight, and spent the next 12 hours helping neighbors.
At 9 pm, the adrenalin stopped flowing and back pain took over. The spasms were so bad my ears would ring and I couldn't breathe. Until 1 pm today when I got heavy duty pain meds, I was in intense pain. Frankly, I'd rather have my post-surgery gastrectomy pain than this. ((sigh))
Anyway, I live in an area normally not affected by hurricanes, so I think the media push helped many folks recognize they needed to prepare. Despite the warnings, however, many folks didn't even fill bathtubs with water, get coolers filled, stock up on easy to eat foods, or consider how they'd do without power for several days. Those folks are in a bad way.

Thanks for checking-in, Tracey. I hate to hear your back is hurting so bad and your area has been hit so hard. I know you want to help as many folks as you can but you gotta take care of you too. I'll keep swinging lizards for you guys and you know if you need anything or want to come out this way you're always welcome.
