Has anyone had a Revision from VSG to RNY?
I know that you feel my pain. That is what drives me crazy the acid reflux. I do want to lose the weight too. I never reached my goal and this will be my 3rd surgery. I'm happy for you. I only pray that the RNY will be a double blessing for me, relief of the reflux and lots of weight loss.
Thanks!
Hi,
Here I am waving from Australia. My revision from VSG to RNY was because of severe reflux even refluxed my own saliva. :( I had to have manometer testing which measures the pressure in my stomach and I had very high pressure and was on the verge of a rupture. I'd already burst 3 small erosions and was vomiting up heaps of blood and was rushed into intensive care for 3 -4 days and had to have loads of blood transfusions.
My revision to RNY was not about weight loss but it came down to live or die if I ruptured. I am pleased to report that I have gone on to lose some more weight but not great amounts and I still currently weigh 149lbs and I'm 5'1" tall so still kinda heavy for my height but I'm really not too fussed as I can buy normal clothes in the normal sized section.
I have no reflux at all now and the difference in quality of life is truly amazing after so many years of chest burn and throat burn from the reflux.
Any questions just ask.
Cheers from Karin (in Oz)
At the time I had my first surgery I thought the reflux was due to my weight. I was never told that the RNY would be best to treat it.
I had my revision last year and my surgeon kept me on the Prilosec for 3 months to prevent ulcers and after 3 months I asked if I could go off it and they said to give it a try. I have never had a problem since.

Thanks Ladytazz, I guess you are happy with your RNY. You did great with your weight loss. Was it easier with the RNY then with the VSG?
I will let you know how it works out for me.
Don't know the official name of the reflux. I just want it to stop. I have already decided to go with the RNY. My doctor is also a Heartburn Treatment Specialist as well.
Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.
