Spoke Too Soon

I just commented the other day about how I haven't dumped for a while.  I thought maybe my body was getting used to the increased complex carbs and fats.  Well, that ended today.  I ate the exact same thing I have been eating for a while, protein oatmeal with milk and butter and a banana.  Nothing different at all and today I dumped.  WTH is up with that?  Why can I tolerate something one day and the next it get me?  Is it the phase of the moon?

Sorry to hear that Tazz. Dumping is a fickle thing with me too.
Sometimes I think it depends on how fast I eat something. Its the only thing I can come up with.

Feel better!

I don't dump but am sorry you did.  You are the one who needs to eat and dumping really seems to limit you.

Sorry you had to go through that.

I still dump occasionally and sometimes I can't figure out the reason, but it's usally because I ate to fast or didn't wait long enough between meals.  If I'm remembering right you had this first thing this morning so you probably didn't have anything else before it.

Sorry that hasppened to you...now a word about bananas...while good for you they are very high on the glycemic index. One banana has 51 grams of carbs and 28 of that is fructose (sugar). Try the same meal but add some bacon or sausage to it instead of the banana.

I choose bananas specifically because they are so high in carbs and fructose.  I figured it would help me eat more calories if I choose something that was higher in those things.  Probably why I was dumping on them, too, between that and the oatmeal I am sure it is carb overload.  I am just having a tough time figuring out how to get in enough calories without eating junk and without setting myself up to dump.

Tazz,
I'm so puzzled too.  I will eat the same thing for 4 days and everything was fine then today I ate 1/3 deviled egg w/1 slice of turkey bacon and I am certain I experienced dumping.  Immediate pressure/pain in my pouch that felt like my pouch was going to explode.  Then diarrhea and enough pain that it causes me to moan.  This is the 2ND time it as been so painful.  It feels like gas lodged and it's going to explode.  So this is dumping right?  I even measured my food on the scale(1 oz)  because I dumped last week too so I decided to measure everything on the scale in case I was overeating.  I don't know what the answer is.  During this time I swore I would NEVER eat again.  The pain lasted for 3 hours - the longest spell I've ever had.  My 3rd dumping episode.  If it is the moon I need to check my calendar.

The diarrhea could be a sign of dumping or lactose intolerance or a few other things.

But pressure in your chest and feeling like you are going to explode comes from eating too fast, not chewing enough, eating too much... things like that. It's not dumping.

Dumping is when your food drops into your intestines and the body over-reacts to the sugar and/or fat content. Because food dumps into your intestines faster than it used to, the possibility for your body to get overwhelmed by a large jolt of sugar that it can't handle increases.

But pressure comes from food backing up into your esophagus. If the food is in your pouch and esophagus, you can't be dumping off it because it's not in your intestines yet.

That doesn't sound like dumping.  Pressure and pain in your pouch sounds like you ate too fast or didn't chew enough and something got stuck causing the pain and pressure.

Dumping is when you eat something that is very high sugar, high carb or some people very high fat which you didn't eat anything that fit that category and that causes a rush of fluids to dump through your intestines causing profuse, foul smelling diarhea - it is enourmous amounts, almost foamy consistancy - it isn't just normal diarhea.  Some also get lightheaded and sweats - I dont' anymore but when I did it was just the diarhea but it was disgusting.

Just a thought - For the past few months I became so lactose intolerant that I couldn't even drink lactaid milk and I also became very sensitive to sugar. Prior to that, I was able to eat or drink anything - high sugar, any type of dairy - anything and then one day - it all changed.  It was really weird.  It was like I was like I was dumping on everything - I had diarhea all day long on everything. I also had the worse gas I had ever had - thought there was something alive inside me.  I blamed in on my bowels after the surgeries I had for the bowel obstruction and perforated colon, where they removed part of both my colon and small intestines making my malabsorbtion so much worse.

Like you, it was tough because I had to eat high calorie foods in order to gain weight but without sugar or dairy it was impossible.  About 3 weeks ago, I had urine culture and it came back positive for candida - they put me on Diflucan for 1 week and now all of sudden everything is different.  I can now eat dairy again, I can eat sugar and I no longer have diarhea at all anymore.  The gas is gone.  I actually wish the diahrea would come back a little bit because now I am afraid of constipation which caused my bowel obstruction last year but I am being careful, taking senna every few days and so far all is okay.

I learned that just taking Diflucan for 1 week, killed whatever was going on in my intestines causing such havoc. You might want to look into it.
