Good Morning LWs
I was wondering if anyone can give me some good advice about dealing with a incisional hernia....The specialist wants to wait a few more months to do a repair!! Im am not in alot of pain but very tender in the area. I have noticed lately though that Im dealing with alot of nausea. Should I call him back and keep him informed or just wait it out...thanks

Thanks texasgirl55 for your post...this hernia I have wasnt diagnosed till a couple weeks ago (post surgery) although I wondered about the bulge for the last couple months ago...Im sorry to hear yours was bad...Im thinking mine is starting to bother me same as yours...thanks for writing in...
A hiatal hernia is a hole on the esphagus. It often causes GERD because the stomach will slip up into the hole and get pinched. So that's where the choking and throwing up come in.
I had one of those pre-op and it gave me symptoms that mimiced allergies beaues the acid reflex was getting into my lungs. So I'd wheeze and get sinus headaches. I did eventually get more typical symptoms such as heartburn and it wouldn't respond to heartburn meds because it wasn't being caused by the typical causes of heartburn. I also had mine repaired during surgery and the end result was that I am now off my PPI and even my allergy meds!
The OP has an incisional hernia though which is completely different. That kind is one along the incision line that happens because the incision doesn't heal properly. It mainly causes pain. Typical symptoms of an incisional hernia are a burning sensation, pain, and a visible bluge.
The thing that makes the incisional hernia a bad thing in my mind is that they are often repaired by putting mesh over the whole. But that mesh often causes problems of its own years later.

Thanks for the info MacMadame..your info was spot on and from what Ive read on this site, it is correct!! The symptoms you described is exactly how Im feeling!! Burning sensation and nausea especially after eating...Hopefully I can get this repaired without problems later...thanks again for your message!!!!
I had an incisional hernia about 9 months post op. It was very small and the surgeon took care of it and I had no problems with the surgery.
Now, 16 months after surgery it looks like the hernia is coming back or back. My surgeon looked at it and said he would keep an eye on it. And it is bigger then it was the first time.
The ironic things is that I don't really have any pain or nausea with it most of the time. It is annoying but not terrible.

Thanks Ladytazz....Ive already had surgery almost a year ago...and this hernia just appeared within the last couple months...dr. diagnosed it a few weeks ago...It is located under my incision scar from my weight loss surgery...I am dealing with mostly nausea and dont know if maybe the hernia is pushing against my stomach? Thanks for your imput!!!
My mother had heart bypass surgery about 7 years ago, and a few years after that, she had an incisional hernia to appear. Unfortunately for my mother, her health is too bad for them to operate now to fix it.
I don't think it's unheard of for the hernia to show up quite a while after surgery. After all, there can possibly be a weakness at that incision site.
