Do you have a link to the guidelines?  I would love to send them to my Dietitian.  I would appreciate it!

 Here they are:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/publicASMBS/GuidelinesStatements/Guidelines/bgs_final.pdf

http://www.endo-society.org/guidelines/final/upload/FINAL-Standalone-Post-Bariatric-Surgery-Guideline-Color.pdf

I believe it's page 22 of ASMBS and in section 2.1 of the Endo guidelines.

Good luck,

60-65 is a typical recommendation for an un-altered woman who isn't very active. But you are

(a) recovering from surgery
(b) losing weight rapidly
(c) malabsorbing

Those are all reasons to get more protein.

The other thing is, even if it turns out you only use 60-65 g of that protein for things only protein can do and the rest is just used just for energy, so what? You need the calories, protein is more satisfying than carbs and keeps you full longer and you probably need the extra anyway so why take a chance?

IME some NUTs and doctors are unreasonably afraid of their patients consuming "too much" protein just like many freak out about "too much" Vitamin D when research shows that it's very hard to get too much of either.
