Thanks! I will check my B12 to see if folic acid is in there or not.

Also, the Vit D, I had taken 10,000 units for years - so you think I should take perhaps 5,000 units about 3 times per day?

Thanks!

I'm on Gina's bandwagon. I think my doctor's office and most others just use the ranges provided by the labs. These are fine for non-bariatric patients. It takes time and experience to really understand the bariatric patient and our supplemental needs.

I still use protien shakes. They are a part of my routine. Our suyrgeons want us get our protien from our food. I get this, but realistically it won't happen for me without my protien drinks.

I eat regular food. I use my protiens drinks and vitamins as the main source of protien and vitamins/minerals. I view food as my fuel. I know some people/doctors won't agree and I'm fine with that. It works for me. You have to figure out what works for you.

Sounds like you are doing great. Congratulations on your success!

I agree with everything shared here. Protein drinks can be helpful, they aren't a crutch (like some Nuts will tell you).

The only other advice I got about labs, that I personally find helpful, is to stop your supplements for 2 or 3 days prior to the lab draw. This allows the labs to show what your body is maintaining and absorbing.

I aggree with your other posters. why chnge something that is obviously working?

Most nut are just nutritionists or dieticians who are working in the bariatric field cause it is a lucrative field. There is *NO "bariatric dietician" school, kwim? They are really just applying what they learned in school is "healthy" for everyone and trying to tweak it for bariatric patients.

The people on the LW's know WAYYYYYYY more about nourishing ourselves and keeping ourselves healthy than any NUT,in my opinion. I personally, will take their advice over anyone elses, every time, but that is just me...

I certainly wouldn't want to do without my protein drinks.  Luckily, my NUT approves but it wouldn't change what I do if she didn't.

In terms of goals, keep on keeping on.  You want to see where your body will take you and it may be lower than you ever thought possible but that will give you some bounce back room.  You are early out, just keep going.
