Adverse Childhood Experiences
Wow, this was quite an interesting find. I have 7. Plus, there is a few other challenges that I've needed to overcome, and am in the process of overcoming. Yes, I think genetics is part of the problem. I am the "skinniest" woman on my mom's side of the family, except for an aunt who had stomach cancer. The other ladies are all 300 pounds or more. I am the lightweight of the bunch at 215-220 ish. Most of it gained after having babies. My mom was also from the rural south. That meant growing up, everything she fixed would be covered in gravy or grease. Well, except for the sweets that were almost always available. There is also another issue that the study didn't mention, but probably should have been, poverty. Of course this is usually one of the effects of the others. Honestly, while I was growing up, once my parents divorced, there were times when we were so broke, there wasn't any food available. I do believe that is a contributing factor to my weight issues as well. Now that I have done college later in life, and am part of a loving family, I don't hourd food anymore. I decided to seek VSG after my DH started his process as I don't want end up like my mom. She recently died, age 67, diabetes, congestive heart failer, kidney failure, and lung disease (she was a heavy smoker). I saw myself heading down that path, I have decided to take that right turn and make some changes. Thanks to a couple of health issues, I qualify for WLS through Kaiser. YoYo dieting gets old afte 20+ years. Well, that's my connection to this article, thought I'd vent a little, as I realized the connections in my life.
