2.  Well... just me now.  Moved out of BF's house 2 weeks ago and was living with my daughter.  Before I met BF I ate according to the book.  When I moved in with him, I converted him away from carbs and more of a low carb/protein lifestyle.  And like others, he cleaned my plate - lol.  I eat out a LOT because I'm on the road for work a lot.  Once I settle down, I'll be doing more cooking at home.  I pretty much eat meat/veggies.  But do like the occasional white chicken chili and cream type casseroles.  Living with my DD was GREAT!  She's a good cook and cooks very natural and low fat/calorie foods.  She's a Weigh****chers follower.   At Toms there was always the "snack while watching tv" mentality.  Even thought it was usually meat/cheese, it still was a bad habit to get into - just calories I didn't need.

3.  I lived in Northern Michigan - now in Northern Virginia.  I grew up in mid-Michigan and there really isn't any kind of regional foods there.  Came from a "clean your plate" home too.  Now I don't worry about it.  Leftovers always are good.   Mom followed the eating pyramid back in the day - and she always had a nutritious meal on the table for us.  No snacks either.  So I developed pretty good eating habits growing up, but as life went on..... didn't eat so well. Loved fried foods, high carbs, etc  Fried foods don't set well with me anymore (yea) and carbs are - well.. just bad for me!  I did develop Reactive Hypoglycemia and have to really watch my simple carbs and sugars.  That helps keep me in line!

1.  When was your surgery and what kind did you have? I'm having surgery March 12th, and it will be a Sleeve with Dr. Alvarez.

2.  Who lives in your house with you?  How does that affect your eating/cooking? I feel like the brady bunch, but here it goes.  I live with my DH, DD (15), DS (13), and DS (6).  I'm not a big cook, although I do it when necessary - lol.  My mom lives through the pasture and she is single and loves to cook.  She cooks for us 2 or 3 times a week and I do the rest.  As much as we all like our fried foods, everyone is pretty good about eating healthy.

3.  What area of the country(s) do you live in?  Does your area affect how you eat? Both my DH and I are from Texas and we live near Waco.  My family does love southern food, we love Blue Bell ice cream, and bbq.  With that being said, we live about 30 minutes from town so we don't eat out very often.  We love fresh fruit and veggies during the spring and summer!

1.  When was your surgery and what kind did you have?  I had RNY surgery September 20, 2011.

2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?  My husband and I live here.  DH weighs 300lbs and has struggled with his weight all of his adult life.  Like Price, I spent most of my time trying to keep up with his eating habits ie. 1/2 gallon of ice cream a night.  He eats pretty healthy at home, but I don't see what he eats during the day at work.  He had a knew replacement over a year ago and needs the other one done.  Other than that he has no other health issues, yet.  I cook every night with the exception of weekends.

3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does that affect how you eat?  I have lived my entire life in Southern California.  We have a weekly farmers market year-round just around the corner from where we live that I enjoy buying locally grown fruits and vegetables.  Living in Southern California we tend to BBQ outdoors a lot.  Too hot in the summers to light the oven.

 1.  When was your surgery and what kind did you have?
--May 2008 I had  RNY

2.  Who lives in your house with you?  How does that affect your eating/cooking?
--I live with my DH, DD 16, and DS 10. I cook for all; there is always protein that I can eat as well as carbs for them. sometimes this is hard as I may just not be hungry.  There are unhealthy snacks in the house -- usually bought by DH. Hard to fight the temptation.
--About my house...we moved in less than two years ago. It has the open kitchen/family room area. Great to feel included when cooking in the kitchen BUT bad to watch TV with the fridge etc 10 steps away.  Have to keep myself from wandering  for a little bite of something during the commercials.

3.  What area of the country(s) do you live in?  Does your area affect how you eat?
-- I live in VA.  Fast-paced area with lots of "on the road" time -- works really well for me when I remember my water bottle and not so well if I forge****er and snacks.  Too many real/actual restaurants that deliver and are not always the best option.

1.  When was your surgery and what kind did you have? I had a DS on Jan 24th, 2011

2.  Who lives in your house with you?  How does that affect your eating/cooking? I have one dh (also a DS'er) and 7 cats/3 puppies. Since dh and I are only 5 weeks apart on our surgery date and both at goal weight, cooking has become both easy and a challenge. Easy because both of us eat the same foods. Challenging because gas/food prices has severely cut into our budget and eating cheap is hard on a fixed income. And I am even cooking for the puppies, making their food too.

3.  What area of the country(s) do you live in?  Does your area affect how you eat? Grew up in the South, and most of my cooking is typical of the region...heavily concentrated in lard/bacon grease/or butter. Esp in veggies. And thanks to the DS, that's actually good for me now. But it also meant a LOT of rice or grits dishes...and I've had to learn a way around that.

What did help me was this way of eating for the DS is almost NO different from the way I was eating to manage my diabetes with an insulin pump....protein, then fat, then green leafy stuff,

Liz
