Hot flashes after eating

I have been getting hot flashes after most meals.  Even meals that are pure lean protein.    I've been eating as slow as possible and chewing my food very well.  It passes in a minute or so I don't think I am dumping.  Any thoughts?

Dumping doesn't pass in a minute or too... it takes a couple of hours for it to go away.

I can't tell you what is going on, as I haven't experienced it.  I originally thought about what you were eating, but if its pure lean protein... you've got me stumped.  Perhaps someone else will chime in.

Are you using any spices on your protein?  Perhaps getting a reaction of some kind?

Sometimes that happens to me when I eat too fast. Or maybe 1 bite too much though that tends to bring on more of chest squeezing like a 10 pound cat is sitting on my chest.

I began having that issue  when I was several months post op, and it did not matter what I ate.  I posted about it. I thought it was hormonal, but  I was told it was the beginning of  reactive hypoglycemia.  Eventually I began having RH episodes.  They began in earnest before the one year mark.  I did not have them often but often enough for my endo to prescribe a meter.  I had a few really bad episodes.   Now I believe I'm out growing the issue.  I rarely have them anyone.  I had the sweating, etc., even when eating lean protein.  I had them everytime I ate also.  You might want to keep something on hand at all times in the event you have an episode.

I need to learn more about this.  What should I have on hand?

Do a Reactive Hypoglycemia search on this site.  There are many excellent posts about this.

When I first began having issues,  I would eat protein. It began happening so frequently I mentioned it to my endo when I had my yearly for my thyroid check.   My endo explained I need carbs to bring it back up in conjunction with protein.  I told her I would grab a spoon of peanut butter, and she said add a few crackers.  Orange juice works really well.  The absolute worst, scariest event I had with RH I was given orange juice.  Some people carry glucose tablets.  Some people carry nuts, protein bars, etc.  I've read where some drink milk.  I've read where some eat protein right before going to bed.

For a period of time, I was concerned I was developing an issue with RH.   My blood sugar routinely dipped into the low 40s, and I believe if I had been able to check my BS the time I had the really bad episode, I would venture to say it had to be in the 30's.  I had not eaten all day, and the first thing I ate that day was candy.....dumb idea.  I also began realizing I could not t go long periods of time without eating.

But as I said earlier I really don't have this issue any more.  Every now and then I may feel slightly weird, but I'll grab a cracker and PB.  I can't remember when it last occurred.

But it all began with sweating each and every time I ate.  I am post menopausal and really thought it was simply a female thing.  It was not.  I am fine now.  Some people really have issues with this.

My endo is a professor at a medical school.  She has a number of patients who have this... a couple so seriously they had to finally undergo the pancreatic procedure after medications would not help and had serious issues throughout the day.  She told me as a RNY patient, I had to control my carb intake and eat according to plan.

I have it.  I don't feel bad, just hot and i have to remove clothing. I just figured it was part of the whole deal, like never being warm (unless I'm eating of course)

Just wondering if you're taking your multivitamin or a B-complex when you eat?

No.  I take my multi in the am/pm on empty stomach.  Calcium sometimes coincides close to lunch but not not often.

I have to agree with Daisie's thoughts.  I have the same problem and have found it's RH.  It's mellowing out for me the further I get from surgery, but I get it particularly with anything with even a bit of sugar, like some peanutbutter.

The NUT at my surgeon's advised me to keep healthy carbs in my diet and to eat protein with every snack/meal.  It's a frustrating condition because most advice out there just tells you to manage it the best you can.

My worst attack was after drinking sweet alcohol drinks one evening.  Even before this happened I knew that sweet beverages (even protein drinks) could bring on a bad RH incident, but that night I was having a pretty good time.  Never again!
