So I have to take nexium powder for 5 months post op. well it's $239.00 a month! I can not afford that. No way no how .  What are you guys taking? I have Prilosec which costs $50.00.  I can swing thefirst 30 days but not after that. Any help or ideas , or do I have to take it after 30 days.

Yeah, um, no.  I was swallowing pills in the hospital.  I was talking generic Prilosec in the hospital.  I survived with no ulcer or any other problems.  Surely your surgeon has some compassion.  Work with him on a compromise.

I think I was on Nexium for the first month--pill form and then re-evaluated after that. That stuff is too dang expensive!  Anyway, I came off the Nexium and switched to OTC Zantac 150. When the heart burn got bad the first year or 2, I'd take Maalox during the night if it woke me.

I've taken Prevacid - they used to have a dissolvable one that tasted great, but they've discontinued it.  My insurance paid for it, but I still had a $40 copay.

Now I get the capsules and break it open and put the granules on my tongue - it's ok, texture isn't great - but there's no taste.

I was never on nexium.  I took pills from the beginning.  I get the script instead of over the counter because insurance pays but it is all the same stuff.  At almost 2 yrs out, I still take it.  If I don't (or last time I tried) I get a burning pouch.  Start it again and the burning goes away.  so you may have to take something for longer than 30 days but probably not nexium.

Dh was put on nexium after his...and he didn't bother with it. So after mine, I just used his prescription since that is what they wanted me on to start anyway.

Then this past March was my jaw surgery so I called my doctor and asked for ONE month of nexium...with our insurance, it's still expensive but not anywhere near 239.00...I think we paid a $50 copay. It simply was NOT possible to take a pill for awhile. (would not fit thru a syringe).

I'm on Prilosec. I'm very fortunate my  insurance pays for 90 days at a time and we have a low co-pay.  I'm almost 4 years out and I still take it every single day.  If I miss a few days for some odd reason my tummy has a hunger feeling that I don't like.

I did the over the counter chewable Prevacid.  I know we all have experience with swallowing pills early out, so it can be done.  Just please be careful.  I tried to swallow a very small iron pill early out and it got stuck!  I truly believe that must be what a heart attack feels like.  It wasn't pretty!!!

Good luck and remember...baby steps.
