alcohol

So over the past few weeks, I have allowed myself to have a glass of wine from time to time.  Not at home, easy there because I just don't have a bottle open and DH drinks beer.  But when out with friends.  I know it is empty calories and at most, I have had 2 glasses once but still calories I don't need.  However, the trap is this.  When you are having that glass of wine, it usually means supper is later, problem 1.  Then there are hor'dorves, problem 2.  Then there is drinking and eating, problem 3.  You can't fix what time supper is at someone's home but you can prepare ahead and eat a proper snack so you aren't starving.  That will help problem 1 and 2.  I am going to cut out the glass of wine which will solve those empty calories and help with problem 3.

So I am a few pounds up and getting ready to head out on my annual camping trip.  I am responsible for my food except for supper so those are easy, just get back on the wagon.  Supper, no wine, no carbs except for veggies.  This is a trip when I would be likely to come back a pound or two up but I can't do that this time.  Too up already for my comfort.

Alcohol is just not the same for me post op.  A half a glass and I am ready for bed and I feel nauseous.  I have only had it a couple times since surgery but that has been enough for me.  I used to really like sitting at the bar having a couple glasses of wine with dinner watching a baseball/football game with friends.  Now I skip the wine.

I do feel it more than I did but I don't get sick, hung over or anything on my little glass.  but I was fine without it and it brings on other food problems that I don't need.

Price, I commend you for realizing the problem and diving a plan.

I have never opened a bottle of wine at home but if friends are there, they know how to use the wine opener. I will always jump for chocolate before wine.

If I go out to dinner, rarely, but I will have the restaurant pour the glass of wine into two glasses and give the second to my friend. They never mind. then I nurse those 2-3 ounces all evening. Holding back from dessert is much more difficult for me.

Don't even get me started on the bread basket!

Oh yeah, desert and bread.  those are another whole issue.  I can avoid most bread easily and I'm going to have to go back to my chocolate calcuim chews to satisfy my sweet tooth.  I just don't buy good bread and I don't think there will be much on the camping trip.

I don't buy good bread but when I am in a restaurant that has good organic our dough and yummy butter, I get weak in the knees. Oh yeah, and weak in the resolve as well!

I don't like wine (or this new format -- it's hard to read) but I find that the problem with alcohol for me is two-fold: it relaxes me which relaxes my sleeve meaning I have less restriction and can eat more and it also relaxes my inhibitions which means I don't alway make the best choices.

I totally agree. I don't know whether it is restriction with my pouch or that I am eating small amounts over a long time with the hor'dorves but I know the overall consumption ends up being more than I need.  And the choices are usually not the best.
