What to take with you to the hospital (especially when going to another country!)
Alright, one more topic for the day. I have a list of what I am going to pack, but thought I better pick your brains once again. I will be there for 5 days by myself in Mexico, so I really need to make sure I have everything packed that I would need. So, is there anything you suggest?
Sorry no one has answered. I'm guessing we don't have anyone active right this minute who went out of the country.
I just know that I never even opened my bag until the last day to get ready to go home so whatever I took was a waste of packing. Hopefully someone else will have more information for you. Maybe try your surgery, like VSG or RNY board.

Yikes, I'm not sure about that one! Can you get a list maybe from the facility you are going to or the surgeon's office? I would think they would be the best ones to be able to tell you that.
Also, like Roz said, post on which ever surgical board that you are having, and I am sure you will find people who have had their procedures done in Mexico.
Good luck!!!!

Make sure you have the right plug converter thing (I have no idea if Mexico uses what we use). I took lots of protein packets and crystal lite individual packets. Of course you need all your clothes and toiletries. Make sure your hotel room gives you a refrigerator. I don't know what diet you will be on but I was allowed yogurt the day after the surgery. At the hotel I grabbed lots of yogurt from the breakfast buffet and kept them in my hotel fridge. I was also allowed eggs a few days out and I ate some of that. I needed lots of bandages (4x4s) for my drains eacause they were penrose, not JPs and had to cover them. I was able to buy them in town but would have brought them if I had known. I dont know what kind of drains you will have though. I also brought a bottle of hibicleanse to wash my body with several times before the surgery. Take all of your medications with you (I dont know if you take meds). I was allowed to take pills the day after surgery. If you take meds, you need to find out if you need another form of the med. I took an iPad and my cell phone. I took Sudoku puzzle books and a few magazines. Also, find out if your hotel has a washer and dryer, it will cut down on how much clothes you need to take. That being said, I was up and about pretty quickly and could have done laundry. You may not be up for it. Plan on having your period even if it is not time and take your favorite pads or tampons. A lot of people get their period even if it is not time. I bought a fanny pack instead of taking a purse. That way I could keep my essential purse stuff on my hip and freed up space in my two allowed bags for the plane. You may want to check your bags on the way home so their is less carrying time.
That's all I can think of for now...
I would say to take as little as possible. I packed extremely lightly and still didn't use a lof of what I brought.

Somebody mentioned the converter for electricity. You do not need one. Mexico has the same current as the rest of North America. I would get in touch with the hospital to find out what they provide. You will be in a private institution so the care can vary from minimal to magnificent.
I don't where you're going in Mexico but it will likely be warm so loose clothes that don't take much room would be best. When I lived there I mostly wore loose sun dresses and I suspect they would be perfect after surgery.
Don't count on needing to shop for anything. You will be in a strange place and I know I would not relish taking on finding the right place to go. Having said that, wherever you're staying I'm sure the staff will be very helpful with whatever you need.
