Curious if anyone on here has used the "daily plate" at livestong.com.  I am very confused.  I was reading a few boards today about the average daily calorie intake post RNY.  I found lots of answers, but several got their suggested intake from daily plate, with an average of 650-1000.  So, being curious, I went there to see what it said for me...2450!!!!!! I can't imagine ever eating that many calories.  This seemed totally off to me.  Is there something I am missing?!?  Is there an adjustment to consider since this is post WLS?  I know there is no set answer, and my NUT won't set one, but I need some basic idea of how much I should try to get/not get.

i don't use that site.  I used the tracker here when I was in the losing phase.  My group didn't track calories, just protein and fluid in the beginning.  I also tracked carbs because they had a great impact on whether or not I lost even when the calories were the same.  If you eat according to plan, you will be ok.  Yes, 2450 would be impossible after surgery.  Maybe after a couple of years if you sat and ate ice cream all day.

Many use MyFitnessPal to track their calories, etc. I use it to keep a check on my protein intake and carb intake without worrying about the calories.

Once you have surgery, you need to remember a few details:

The first year up to two years is your honeymoon period where weight is easy to drop.

Calorie malabsorption is NOT permanent but vitamin malabsorption IS permanent.

Don't focus on calories.

Focus on grams of protein, grams of carbs, and fluid oz. Keep protein above 100 grams, carbs below 100 (NET carbs below 50-75 if you count that and not full carbs) and fluids above 64 oz each and every day.

Eat often...in order to get enough protein in, you will need to eat 3-6 small meals a day (or supplement with protein shakes in between meals)

Make sure and measure yourself with a tape measure before surgery. Also take a pro-op photo, full length (you may not like how you look in it but believe me, it helps remind you where you were). Then once a month, repeat both...taking your measurements and take a photo. If you use the same background throughout the process you will see more of a difference.

Once you start eating real food, post on Roz's Menus and Miles to get an idea of how long other lightweights eat.

Good luck.

I used that site at first but then switched to My Fitness Pal. They BOTH recommended too many calories when I was heavy. But at goal, they recommended too little. The thing is, those site use a formula based on averages. If you aren't average, it won't work for you. And their formulas don't seem to take into consideration that people who have yo-yo dieted have slower metabolisms than people who have not.

The thing is, immediately pre-op, you *can't* eat every much. It will be a struggle to get in the required protein and the required fluids and you'll be lucky to get in 400-600 calories a day. Eventually, you'll be able to eat more but not a lot more.

It will take anywhere from 3 months to a year to get to a point where you could eat too many calories if you aren't careful.

My program starts everyone off at:

< 800 calories a day

70-90 g of protein

< 40 g of carbs

< 30 g of fats

Then they adjust people based on their individual cir****tances.

I use dailyplate.  At this point I have too many recipes on there that I've created for me to change to another site.  I think it has my calories set to 1600 per day but I eat around 2000 to maintain.
