Gina- RE continuing my Sleeve to a DS
yes,I can and I will. I hate the whole thought of the bypass, scared to death actually on several levels, being self pay not the least of them. I am very concerned about all the possible complications and though I know many who have had the bypass and been successful and no complications, there is always the risk and won't know who will have complications till they are happening.
I firmly believe that surgeon skill has a huge amount to do with RNY'ers complication risks. as we know every tom dick and harry surgeon is jumping on the WLS money wagon and I wonder about the skill level of a lot of them. I think a ungson/Aceves bypass would be very highly skilled but still... something just won't let me go there...
I would ask Dr M if there aren't medications to override the reflux and acid problems. I do know some DSrs whose reflux issues cleared after having the DS--it's not a given that you will have problems post-DS.

Dr Marchesini also recommends revision to the bypass. He says if I don't revise to the bypass things are going to get worse and worse. Not sure exactly HOW they will get worse but there you have it.
I just still can;t go for the bypass, not before getting the hernia fixed and seeing what kind of help that gives me.
I have contacted Dr. kemmeter in Grand Rapids Mi who is on the vetted list. at least I would be in the us and could utilize my insurance for the hernoia, even if it would be out of network. he is OOt for 2 weeks so will have to wait till he comes home for the lady to tell him about my issues. will keep the thread posted.
Dang! Let's see what Kemmeter says.

Why does he think that repairing the hernia wouldn't resolve the reflux. Is it because it's too big?

I didn't know that you were having all these issues, that sure stinks and I hope you get it figured out. Good luck Holly.
