What do you add to your water?
Thank you guys for all the feedback, this is why I love this board! :) Feeling much better that I will have options other than plain water! I have been hard core with the diet coke (apx 8-10 cans a day). Amazingly I am doing pretty well without it, The first day I had a horrible headache, but drank 1/2 a can and the headache was gone. I haven't had anymore since then. So, overall a lot better than I thought it would be!
I had a hard time post op finding something I liked. Everything had too strong of a taste or was just plain gross. Now I drink alot of diet green tea, turkey hill brand (I think it is a regional brand), coffee and diet Dr. pepper. Post op, I would fill a big glass with ice and pour diet Dr. P over it and let it sit and get flat and diluted, that sometimes tasted good to me. Of course I have no problem says I have a caffeine problem.
I tried MIO, different flavors, made me gag. Crystal lite pink lemonade (generic brand, Target or Walmart) was good sometimes. Syntrax Roadside lemonade was good with a half a pack of the individual crystal lite lemonade packs. When making protein shakes, if you can not get the lumps out no matter what you do, get a small sieve that fits over a glass and just strain out the lumps. Lumps made me gag. I also use a small wire wisk instead of a blender ball. It is just what I prefer.
You can buy a variety pack of syntrax nectars to try different flavors. You can find them at a lot of websites. Google it and look for the best price.
My uncle told me once that everyone that has this surgery has certain things that cause dumping and no one really knows what they're going to be until we encounter them (that sounds like something fun to look forward to, right? LOL), but I don't think the crystal light or propel will cause dumping, especially if they are sugar free. You can also try sugar free powerade, I tried one and it was pretty good pre-op, and my taste buds haven't really changed all that much since I had the surgery, at least not yet. I still drink the same protein drinks I was drinking pre-op and they still taste the same. I was pretty surprised because I was expecting things to taste different. As for the loss of diet cokes, I feel for you. I used to be a six can a day diet vanilla pepsi drinker, but I got off of them awhile ago, thank goodness. My step-mom and I dieted for about six months before we had our surgery, before we realized we were getting it, and I'm glad we did, even though I did have a "Farewell to food" tour...which was awesome...but good luck on your pre-op diet...that was the hardest...well...that and the liquid diet...ick...especially in Puerto Vallarta...bring your own soup or order chicken soup from room service and eat around the stuff...we tried to get them to just bring us broth in the restaurant and it was the saltiest, nastiest stuff ever...crap, now I can't remember if you were going to TJ or PV...I hear T****ore accommodating...but either way, you might not have to worry about your taste buds changing...just wait and see...and I highly recommend sugar free popsicles!...hope that helps!
