DD's boyfriend loves to cook and we were thinking about getting him an indoor herb garden but we don't even  know where to start.

Can anyone give us suggestions on what to buy.

Great idea, I think I saw at Lowes or Home Depot a kit for an indoor garden, I think it had 3 herbs.

I dont know what his tastes are like, but the basics for me are always good like parsley, basil, thyme. I also saw some really cute potted rosemary plants that were pruned like christmas trees.

One of those kits is probably an easy way to start.  Actually, If you could find plants instead of seeds, that would be easier.  Sometimes seeds are tempermental about germinating.  Chives are really easy as is parsley.  He will need a warm sunny spot for the pots or a grow light which ends up being a lot more of a big deal.

The only thing I've had luck keeping alive inside is rosemary. It is so good to use with a rub for roasts. I also put mint outside by the back door the way I remember my mom doing. That stuff will take over if you give it half a chance.
