Uuuggghh, I am miserable!
What is a PPI? That is a new term for me.
Sleeved 6/12/13 - 100 pounds lost to get to goal!
PPI is a proton pump inhibitor. it actually stops your body from making too much acid. it often takes bodies a bit of time to realize not as much acid is needed as before with a larger stomach. often peeps have to take it long term,I do.
pepcid and the like just neutralize the acid that is already there, and don't stop the production.
PPI = acid reducer for your stomach like prilosec or nexium, protonix. Pepcid, zantac = h2blocker, also decreases acid
Make sure your getting in enough fluids, dehydration causes nausea.
My tastes were all over the place after surgery and continued to changed for about the first 1 and a half. Would love one protein shake recipe could drink it for a couple of days then I couldnt even bring it up to my nose! Keep experimenting and hang in there. Keeping sipping.
Feel better!

I am taking a PPI twice a day before the antibiotic, tastes horrible, but does help the tummy feel better. I now just doing plain ice water, and seems to be the only thing I can tolerate. None of the additives are cutting it right now. I did manage to get a iced protein shake down the morning. I am still taking some pain meds, and i hate it. I am not one for meds, but seriously if I don't my stomach hurts soooo bad that I can't walk. The bad thing is that the meds make me so lethargic that I don't want to do anything but lay in bed. Horrible catch 22. How long does it take to become malnourished? I am trying to avoid that like the plague, but with very tiny bits of food (protein) and only a few multi-vitamins a day, I just don't know how long it is okay to just focus on the water. I know it has only been a week, but I am so afraid of the malnourishment.
You are still healing...your insides were abused!!! It took me almost 3 weeks to feel somewhat normal. And not want to sleep the day away.
Glad you found some way to get liquids in...don't worry about malnutrition yet...as long as you are hydrated. As long as you are hydrated and getting SOME protein in (first month aim for 30 grams a day, 2nd month 60, then aim high after that), malnutrition is a non-issue. You will be able to eat soon enough.
Keep plugging along...you will do this, :)

Hang in there! Its only your first week. Focus on your liquids, you cant get dehydrated. Maybe try to take half the amount of pain meds to be able to move without being knocked out.
I think it took me atleast 3 months to be able to get my protein and all my vites in. Its a process. Be patient with yourself and dont hesitate to call your surgeon for your concerns and questions.
