You Know You Are Old When

The best birthday present so far is a happy visit to the bathroom, if you know what I mean.

You are actually happy to officially be able to order off the senior menu and get other discounts.

You and your friends used to talk about boyfriends and dating disasters.  Now you talk about your grandkids and health woes.

You start off most of your conversations with "Back in the day we didn't have computers and cell phones..."

You remember having to get up and turn to another channel (all 4 of them).

You had to wait a whole 30 minutes for your tv dinner to be done in the oven.

Color tv was a rare treat.

Watching a movie involved getting dressed and going somewhere.

You remember being able to smoke in banks, grocery stores and the doctor's office (and in hospitals).

You had to write things down on a calendar to keep track of appointments and birthdays.

You had to actually write a check, stamp an envelop and mail in a bill.

If you wanted to get cash out of your bank you had to go inside and talk to a teller.

If you missed a tv show you had to wait for the rerun.

If you wanted to see a movie you had to go while it was still in the theater.

You could buy a tank of gas and still have money left over to buy food.

I could do this all day.  What do you remember?

I read somewhere that you know you have gotten older when you start to enjoy the music in the supermarket. I catch myself singing to the music all the time. And in my head I am always thinking, "Man! I love this song!" Haha.

Those are so true - at my age! Auugh! So very true. A few more I can think of...

* Phone numbers started with a word (WAverly 7 - 1234) and you actually dialed the first 2 numbers matching the first 2 letters of the word).

* You would have to pick up the phone to hear if someone on the party line was talking before deciding if you could make a call.

* If you needed the police in an emergency, you dialed "0" and waited for an operator to answer.

Howdy Doody

You had to actually balance your checkbook because there was no checking it on line.

Ice cube trays you had to fill up if you wanted ice.

Milk that came in bottles with cream on top.

Flying somewhere was a dress up event, and you could smoke on the plane

Not only did you have to get up to change the channel, you had to twist the rotar so the antenna would face the right direction.

There were no zip codes...

There was 1 area code for the whole state (ok, some states still have this...)

You went "visiting" on Sunday - unannounced and they were always home and their house was clean...

You marveled at getting AM radio stations on a clear night from hundreds of miles away and it was fun

A V8 in a car - was a real V8... (350)

There were no seat belts

To operate your high beams on your car, you pushed a button on the floor

8 track tapes were the "thing" and would NEVER be replaced by cassettes!!

Oh - and I'm sure I could go on and on!

HD TV was when you could make out the picture within the snow.

My mailing address was a R R = rural route

I also remember listening to make sure no one was on the party line before using the rotary dial phone.

tanning was accelerated with baby oil - my poor sunburned skin lol

I listened to music on the radio not my I phone

Phones were only for calling!!!

I forgot about the baby oil! In fact, self-tanning lotion was baby oil with iodine added to help make the skin look tanner.

I also forgot about skin tight jeans before there was stretch fabric. My sister and her friend would put on their tightest jeans and then hose them down and lay in the sun to dry them until they shrunk tight onto the skin. Oh my gosh! Seeing her and her friend struggle to just get up from the ground was crazy!

No blow dryers, ironing my hair, using the library cards instead of a computer, milk being delivered to your front door!
