Day two of Pre-Op
ok...day two...
Day one was New Years Day...I did really well...no cheating at all. I did go to bed with my stomach growling...and
woke up on day two with my stomach growling..very difficult to ignore....not impossible...just hard to do...BUT...
I CAN DO HARD THINGS
So now it is day two and I have had my coffee (I will start adding protein to it) and have walked one mile. After my shower I started to feel shaky so I ate a cheese stick...(and logged it). That helped a bunch. Now I am at work and drinking my first (of two) slim fast shakes for the day.
I still feel a bit shaky...but not light headed...so I think I will be ok. I also have an Orange standing by...and another cheese stick in my lunch box if I need it.
So good luck Lucy and remember...YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS...and Don't trade what you want most (to be at a healthy weight)...for what you want at the moment (any type of food).
Your stomach growling is very normal and it isn't really hungry. We all make beautiful music after surgery. If you are on day 2 from RNY and you are not only home but at work, you are doing great. I was still in the hospital feeling very much like I had been run over by a truck. You need to be sipping, walking (a mile may be pushing it unless you were doing 5 or so before surgery) and resting for the next week.
Fluid is you most important friend at this point. Sip, don't gulp. Follow your plan. I have never seen one that had Cheese and oranges on day 2, but I obviously haven't seen them all. Be sure you aren't getting shaky because of sugar. Be sure your shakes have less than 5g of sugar. We were eating 6-8x a day at your point and still on liquids for a couple of days. Some folks come home on soft foods like no sugar added yogurt and cream soup but not usually cheese and oranges. First concentrate on fluids, then protein.
Let us know how you are doing.

Sorry maybe I confused you...I am still Pre-OP...my surgery date is 1/14/13. I am on day two of my pre-op diet.
Oh geeze. I guess I didn't read the title very well. That makes me feel much better. so at THIS point, cucumber and celery are good stops for tummy rumbling and lots of fluids. Whew. My pre-op diet was 4 weeks of 5 optifast shakes a day plus one small food meal, about 1200 calories a day. We had unlimited celery and cukes and that was what kept me going. Yep, keep your eye on the prize. It won't be long.

I thought maybe you missed the title...no worries...I love the fact that you were ready to help...I am sure I will need all the support I can get in the coming weeks, months and years...so NEVER stop schooling me... OK?
I'm so excited for you!! What plan did your Surgeon give you to follow. Don't starve yourself. Are you allowed liquids, jello, broth, etc?
Roz
God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

The plan I received was for a shake for breakfast; a shake for lunch; and a sensible meal for dinner...all the clear liquids I can take in between is ok. So while my mouth is starving...and my stomach is growling...I WILL follow this plan...
The clear liquids in between are water (lots) hot tea chicken broth....all can be protein fortified...

I can't emphasize enough the importance of drinking fluids. It actually helped my stomach when it was growling and giving all kinds of signals that it was hungry. Twenty minutes after drinking it would stop. Just saying don't forget test growling stomach with fluids first.
