Good Morning. What do you remember about your first 2 weeks post-op?
The hospital stay was the pits. I'm so glad DH was able to stay with me. My night nurse and the monitor tech *****sponded to call buttons were worthless. The tech was texting all night and my IV alarm kept going off. If I had to depend on those two, I would have probably peed myself. Oh, and the nurse took hours to get my anti-nausea meds, I always barf after anesthesia, not fun.
Once I got home, things got much better. DH had his VSG in Dec 2011, so he knew how to help me. I do remember being really tired and I didn't have much energy for several weeks. Of course I also did an endometrial ablation at three weeks post VSG. I scheduled it this way because of my medical leave at work. That is the one thing I would do differently, I would not do two surgeries that close together again.
Had my surgery in MX with the most maligned surgeon there, but my experience was excellent in every way.
First thing I remember after surgery was waking up vomiting small amount of blood, two times. after that,i never vomited again. I was up walking to the bathroom right after vomiting and never stopped. I had very little well managed pain, some acid also well managed and i was even walking upstairs in the middle of tthe night after my surgery to check on ppl I had met earlier in the day while we were all waiting on our surgeries.
I was so blessed,I really know it now,and felt like it was so then as well. I had no trouble drinking gatorade ,broth, popsicles, at all. no pain,no full feeling, just very remarkably like pre op. I was careful to sip though I really had no pain at all.
We spent a full week in Mexico and I felt well enough to go see the beach,go to the mall,go to the pharmacy and just ride along with our driver when he was going on errands. Oh,i laid out in the sun on day too, lol, See my profile for pics. it was unusually cool in Mx for feb so all I could stand to sun was my stomach, lol.
Second week was more of the same. We were back home and i was able to move to the full liq stage easily. One of my incisions wanted to weep and opened a bit but being a nurse,I knew what to do and did it and it healed fine with no other intervention.
i had Type II preop and I was thrilled that by the day after my surgery my BS was already normalizing.
