Osteoporosis
Losing weight as fast and as furious as we do made mine a little worse. I probably didn't need to be on Fosamax but my PCP put me on it for about a year. What has improved things has been a drastic increase in calcium citrate, boron, vitamin D3, vitamin K2 and magnesium citrate. As a DSr I take a lot of these due to my malabsorption. Taking a swag here for an RNYr I would suggest: building up to 2400 mg of calcium citrate a day in 600 mg doses (usually 2 capsules), take a magnesium citrate capsule and a boron tablet with each calcium dose, take 150 mcg dose of vitamin K2 AM and PM, and 10,000 IUs of dry D3 AM & PM. You might need to take Miralax and magnesium oxide to keep things moving. Veteran RNYrs, any suggestions? Am I too high on these doses?

I think it is going to be very personal. Have your levels taken before surgery so you know what you are starting with. My bones were always great before. I got my levels too high, Drs cut my doses, then my last bone scan said osteopenia. So I have raised my D3 and calcium again. I find the relationships difficult because my PTH has been backwards the whole time, which was why they lowered my doses to begin with. As active and clutzy as I am, I don't want weak bones.
Exercise also strenghens bones. I started weight training with a fun (hard) class called muscle pump. We lift light weights, many reps to music. It is a great workout and good for strenght building and bones. I could have never done it before WLS
