Hi!  My hubby an I are thinking of getting this done for our own personal reasons.  Since our BMIs are pretty low, we were both thinking of the Lapband but after consulting with the surgeon, he suggested the sleeve for both of us....which really does sound better.  However, my hubby is concerned that he will lose TOO MUCH weight.  He only wants to lose about 50 lbs...so we are wondering if this is right for him.  He has tried several ways to cut that last 50lbs but just cannot break through that weight!  We are trying to avoid a back surgery and other health issues he as so if we can keep this weight off with surgery that would be great.  Does anyone have any examples of their weight loss starting around same bmi or weight as him...i know its different for men and women but we are just curious.

The sleeve is a good option for lightweights. As to losing TOO much...most of us lose what we need before getting some bounce back.

For example, my husband and I are both DS'er's (sleeve with the malabsorption), We rar both lightweights. For my story, read this thread: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_lightweights/4600995/I ts-been-TWO-years/ My husband's pre-op BMI was 39.7 and is now at a 23.2 (PERFECTLY NORMAL BMI). He did get down to a 22 BMI but would not have gotten underweight til he hit an 18.5 and he was never in danger of doing that. I went from a 35.2 to a 22.7.

I would not wish the lapband on my worst enemy...in fact my PCP told us not to even think about going that route, he wouldn't recommend us for surgery if we had. He did approve us for the DS, but had we had the sleeve or RNY, he would have recommended that as well.

Welcome to the lightweight board.

Liz

It's common to worry about losing too much weight. But our bodies are surprisingly good at picking a weight and kind of forcing us to be at that weight and most of us complain that this weight is 5-20 pounds higher than we want. Very few complain that it's lower than they want! mail
