Question about healing pains...

I'm almost 1 year post-op, but still having some pain at a couple of the original, laparoscopic sites.  It's not often, but does tend to throb when my blood pressure goes up (i.e., I get ticked off about something) or when I'm really tired.  These two spots have what hubby thinks are scar tissue underneath as they are hard bumps in those spots.  I can usually rub some Tiger Balm on them and be fine (although I will stink after).  Tylenol for the pain doesn't do anything for me.

In any case, I was wondering what your thoughts are on this.  I really don't want to bug my surgeon on this if this is something that will go away with time.  Incidentally, the last surgery (which was done 3/7/2012) was open.  The first two were laparoscopic (first one done 2/29/2012 and I can't recall when the second one was done).

It does sound like scar tissue but the next time you go in for a follow up appointment, I'd definitely mentioned it and show the medical peeps what you're talking about.

None of my surgical sites have bumps, but my drain site does and it still itches.   I agree to ask about it next time you see the doc.

That's funny they hurt when your blood pressure is up.  My moms incision hurt for about 10 years and she got a whole belly tuck out of it.

Well I called my surgeon's office and left a message with his medical assistant.  No call back today as I was hoping since he doesn't schedule surgeries on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Unless there's an emergency, he's seeing patients.  They just drive me nuts sometimes... now more than before.

My mom, who was a surgical nurse for 15 years, reminded me that I'm still healing again.  She also said I may have issues with them long after.  She has had several surgeries of her own and has issues with them bothering her, especially when the weather changes... almost like how those with arthritis feel more pain when the barometer drops.

I'll just wait to hear back from the MA and keep doing what I'm doing...

I diffently know how you feel, every time I have surgery I get scar tissue built up in certain areas when my incesion's itch or throb I just rub muscle pain cream over them and that helps. At the dollar tree here in Lake Wales I discovered they have muscle soraness in a stick like deoradte comes so I dont have to get it on my hands. And for a $1. it works great.

Thanks for letting me know about the muscle soreness cream in stick form.  I'll have to go looking for that here in Jacksonville.  I like using the Tiger Balm (sometimes called White Lotus oil/ointment), but it does get all over the hands and can be tough to get off of them (got to wash really well with lots of soap and warm water).  I may have to celebrate the day when this discomfort finally goes away for good...

So I finally got in touch with my surgeon's MA this morning while I was on break.  It is indeed scar tissue trying to heal up.  She said that with time they should soften on their own and go away.  Hopefully once that happens the pain will stop.  She also said that, depending on what my surgeon had to use those incision sites for, that may be a reason why there's only scar tissue build-up in a couple of places.  So I will just keep doing what I'm doing for the pain and discomfort, be patient and keep on keeping on.

Thank you all for your input!
