A big hi to everyone! So glad to open up the forum page (after finally finding our
Login ID and password)....& seeing my pals!

Roz, it is great to see your smiling face and Major Mom (hi, Gina!) and so many others that we traveled on our journey with. So much in our lives have changed, the biggest I suppose, is that I have had 2 back surgeries since last March. And I believe I will end up having one more. Waaaaaaaaah.

Sooooo, saying that, you can imagine no work, no play thus sitting on my butt healing. This said-- I need advice.....As you can imagine a few pounds have settled back on. What advice do you all have for me? So depressing. Tomorrow I am making an appointment with the dietician for advice but would really like your input.

I had even found a protein I like!! I am having a shake in the morning and have about 12 bottles and pumps on my counter. Probably am eating too much at one time also. So, without further to do , let the advice begin!

Connie!!

So sorry to hear about the back surgeries. Are you able to walk freely or swim?  I'm thinking low carb and move as much as you can. The dietitian will likely tell you to count calories and eat whole grains, and I think you know what I think of that advice. lol

Keep drinking your shakes, add a couple more, and try to reduce your carbs and volume eating. If you can walk often and swim, that would help. I need to boost my metabolism by getting the exercise back into my routine too. We can keep each other company.

It's great to see you.

Hey Ms Gina,
So good to touch base! I don't move around as well as I used to, which I know is part of the problem. It just seemed like one day the weight was there.

I am usually getting 2 shakes a day in, both with abouth 25 gm in them and I put it in milk so there is another 8 gm. So about 33 or so each shake. I over eat on fruit, I do know. I still can't eat a lot at one setting but I think I am grazing at least with the fruit.

As with so many others, I am a stress eater and if you remember Joe had been laid off which turned into a lay off of 3 1/2 years and then they announced the closing of the plant December 31, 2011. So, what fun......

I started drinking a lot of fruit juices which I am sure helped because i would drink a big glass of it and so many other things that i knew better than to put in my mouth! I gained 30 some pounds and have lost almost 10 of it but really need to reve it up.. Just need to be able to get back in my jeans and I will be a happy woman.

So yes, let's do this together. Tomorrow I start back in water with the therapy but on my own. I so I will walk, bicycle, do the splits, jumping jacks etc inn the water. So I hope that will help. Do you think 3 shakes pr day is too much?

If you can drop your carbs down to 50-75 a day, then 3 shakes a day isn't too much. Fruit and fruit juices are sneaky. If you must have a little fruit, try blueberries or strawberries in small amounts a day.  Watch the carbs in milk too. Whole milk is a little better than skim, so don't be fooled by low fat--they add sugars to skim. Can you keep cheese and jerky in the house to graze on? Those might be helpful to keep around.

I am having a shake as I type and we do keep the cheese sticks in the house. I didn't know how many carbs I should have, so thanks for that tidbit! I told Joe no more juice because I love it so much. I could drink 3-- 12 oz glasses a day of peach, pineapple and orange juice mixed. So there goes my "wine". Lol

So, out with the fruit or at least juice and lets see if this weight won't come back off.

Thanks again for the advice and will post again probably tomorrow.

Have a great night!!!!

I crashed my bike a little over a year ago and hit my head. Now I have post-concussion syndrome and I can't work out! But I'm on some good meds now and I'm starting to swim again. We'll see what happens...

Welcome back.   Sorry to hear about your back.  It sure does make it hard to move. Good for you getting back in the water and getting moving.  That should help.

Fruit juice is basically sugar that just slides through.  See if you can't get rid of that.  Try getting the carbs down and the protein up and with your moving, you are on the right road.  Glad to see you again.
