I have arthritis in my big right toe. So he is going to either go in and 1. just clean it out, 2. have to cut the bone to realign since it's close to being bone on bone, and 3. put in an implant because the cartilage is pretty much gone. It could be just 1 and 3, 2 and 3 - we'll see....

That's funny...I have arthritis in my right big toe too. After wearing dress shoes just for a short time makes the pain unbearable sometimes. I even got an excuse from my Dr. so I can wear tennis shoes at work. I tell my girls that it's from pushing the gas pedal all those years dragging them around and since it hurts really bad after driving for a distance I think it's true. They gave me some support to wear in my shoe but It only makes it worse. I'll be watching to see if you notice any improvement.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

Hey Roz - what are you doing up at this hour? LOL...
I've had it for well over 10 years and it got better for awhile, then to the point I could barely walk - didn't matter what kind of shoes I was wearing. I've had 2 cortisone shots in it the past few months, which helped immensely, but it's just an anti inflammatory, doesn't make it better and you can really only get 3 a year, and it's not a good idea to do it year after year...
The Dr told me it's a degenerative disease and will continue to get worse. He said this is the perfect time to have it taken care of, as I still have some space between the bones - they just don't know how much cartilage is there. Once the space is gone and the bones rub together, they can fuse that way - then it becomes a much bigger issue.
Yea, I tried the support too, and what it did was make my foot sit higher in the shoe, which rubbed on the top of it even more.
They did say it could take me 6-7 months before the swelling is gone. Guess we'll see!
