x-post, follow up appt, ice skating NSV, and...ouch
Yesterday I had my 5 month follow up with the NUT & NP at Kaiser Fontana. Both ladies were very pleased with my progress so far. The NP shared that they expect their sleeve patients to only lose 70% of their excess weight within a year. I am at 86% excess weight lost since I started classes. They both told me to keep doing what I'm doing because it is working. However, I "fudged" the MFP diaries that I had to turn in a little bit because they don't want to see anything over 80 g of protein a day. I was chastised for that at my last appt. I do what most of the vets do. Kaiser's plan also includes way to many starchy carbs. I'm not going there. So that is how my afternoon went.
Later on, I had my ice skating class. It was going really great. For the first time since I was 15, my feet left the ice. No, it wasn't a traditional jump as we all know them from watching the pros. It was just a series of hops, but I landed them successfully. That was way cool. Worked on some new, old moves, which was also going well. Then...a simple forward grapevine, and bam, I fell really hard. Not much padding left, so ouch. One of my classmates wears crash pads, I am thinking about getting me some. Or, possibly padded bike shorts. I know there are many more falls in my future as I re-learn my favorite sport. I also have to convince my body that it is alright to try these moves. My mind is more than willing, I just need to convince my body to play along.
It's kinda ironic that they tell you to "keep doing what you're doing" as you've been very successful, but not doing it "their way" and they don't want to hear it.... They really need to hear that "their carby way" isn't what makes it work - especially for the long term.
I'm glad you're taking the advice from the vets - those that do tend to be successful, and for the long term.
Congrats on your ice skating! You sound like you're having a great time - and you know it's a great way to exercise too.
I think the padded bike shorts is a GREAT idea! I know I lost a lot of padding in my rear-end, it has since redistributed and even added some, but that particular time was tough.

My surgeons office PA reprimands me when she see's all of my Protein drinks. She is a little chubby and I'm thinking maybe "you should take some notes from me"...lol They can say whatever they want this works for me.
Congrats on the ice skating! I do best when I hang onto a chair!
