Weekend Away - Failure
We are leaving on a cruise a month from today and I'm dreading picking from menus! I read some of the old ones and you are right they are full of carbs!.

Lauren - it happens. You just need to get your mind wrapped around ordering the veggies instead of potato. It does become second nature to think like that when you go out to eat... but you have to make it a habit.
I went out to eat the other night and ordered the prime rib. It came with a baked potato and veggies. I said ok. I ate quite a bit of the prime rib and veggies and didn't touch the potato, but for some reason felt compelled to bring it home. It's still sitting in my fridge and will probably be thrown out because I just can't bring myself to eat it.
Get back on the horse - you'll do fine. We all fall off... believe me!

I just had a few days from home and found some places easier then others. We packed breakfast so that wasn't a problem, I picked up a couple of Atkins breakfast bowls to have if needed. For dinner we went to Red lobster and I had grilled shrimp and veggies and the waitress was great and packed up 3/4 of the meal before she even brought it to the table. We also went to Cheesecake Factory and they have a new weight conscious menu, and I had the chicken lettuce wraps the appetizer size which was perfect, the new menu has the calorie counts as well as carbs and protein, again part of this packed up to go for lunches the next day.
I had a hard time getting the fluids in when busy though.
I did find that my sodium was up on those day and had more water retention, by the time I was home a couple of day and drinking properly things improved.
Good Luck
IRis.
I try to stay simple, breakfast - eggs/meat
lunch -soup or salad
dinner -soup or salad
If I am out with DH I have a few bites from his plate.
I cant eat much still, so to order a dinner I feel like Im wasting money. lol

We have all done it and as soon as you can get back into your routine the better.
Even at 4.5 years out it is hard for me to eat at restaurants I'm not used to. I usually ask for the menu while we are waiting or I look it up ahead of time.
Unless you have been with your boyfriend a long time and he understands it would be difficult but if you are comfortable with each other and if he his a "keeper" it should be easier.
Usually I order from the appetizer menu (usually grilled shrimp) or DH orders a big steak (that's is reward for sharing) and he cuts me off a small portion of the most tender part. I also like potato skins so after DH cleans out his potato then I eat about 1/4 of the skin. Sometimes DH orders shrimp on the side of his meal for me. If we go Mexican I order Fajita meat and vegetables and tell them to keep the wraps and dips. Appetizers are the worst...fired pretzels, cheese sticks, chips etc.. They are sooo tempting. Early out I didn't even try them but now I enjoy a few bites but then I'm extra careful not to order "bad" carbs with my meal.
