Congrats on your upcoming WLS!!!

It's been quite a while since I had to do the liquid diet but it I do remember it including soft foods also. I don't remember struggling at all. I was probably super excited.

No I did not cheat....too important to me for that. I don't remember cheating after my surgery either. Now that I've been on Maintenance for quite awhile I don't call it cheating I call it "normal for me" Instead of a box of cookies or a bag of chips I have a couple and stop.

WARNING TO SELF AND TO ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN!!! AVOID 'BAD' CARBS AT ALL COSTS!!! THEY ARE ADDICTING!! THEY WILL SLOW DOWN YOUR WEIGHT LOSS DURING THE LOSING STAGE (and you won't even notice)!! THEY WILL MAKE THE SCALE GO UP AFTER THE HONEYMOON PERIOD IS OVER.

Success in Maintenance starts with GOOD CHOICES during the Honeymoon Period.

Topic: RE: Eating Out

I use to panic when I had to order food out.

I do much better out than I do at home. I have a tendency to eat meat right out of the pan ( moister that way). I sometimes order from the kids menu but I've found that their portions aren't that small. DH and I usually always split when we go to a restaurant and that usually keeps me under control because he is a big eater.... We enjoy TX Roadhouse the best. We share steak and I get green beans. If we don't share I usually order an appetizer like shrimp skewer. I avoid fast food but that's hard when you are grabbing something in a hurry.

I imagine this may be different for different programs, but mine was using a product called Optifast. You have 4 shakes per day. Days 1-4 you may feel a bit hungry, but after that its smooth-sailing.

You can also have clear broth, water, s/f jello while on this.

I didn't cheat at all on this, after the first few days you don't seem to want to. (at least, i didn't)

S/F flavourings can help to change up the taste of it. I especially liked a Crystal Light squeeze in called Aloha Pineapple mixed in my vanilla shakes, gave them a pina colada taste.

Also, I recommend drinking them super cold.

Topic: two week pre-op diet

Hi... out of everything that I have been through to get cleared for surgery. The waiting. The test. The evaluations. The one thing that, at this point, worries me the most. Is the two week liquid diet prior to surgery. Can anyone speak to what it was like for them, where you constantly hungry, what did it consist consists of, (did you cheat?), any tips or pointers that helped you.. thanks

JoAnn

Topic: Eating Out

Next month will 9 years since my RNY and I still have trouble eating out. I should have everything under control by now. I think I want to eat out but most every time, I make bad choices and I eat too much. Many times I've been so uncomfortable I had to make myself throw up. So, I spend money on a nice meal, eat too much and it comes back up. We don't eat out a lot. At home I don't overeat so why do I do it at a restaurant.

Today, we went to 54th Street Grill. DH and I ordered a burger on a pretzel roll to split and an order of Spinach Artichoke Dip. I ate part of the pretzel roll and most of the burger. I love the dip but I was really too full but I ate it anyway with chips.

Do others have trouble eating out?
