Thank you! It is so nice to hear from everyone. Trying to hang on until I graduate as far as not gaining any weight and getting off a couple of pounds to get down to my "low" end.

So happy to be back! It is nice to be welcomed back warmly.

Hello,

I don't post much anymore - I am in my last semester of grad school and that has taken so much of my time - haven't been focusing as much on my weight, etc. I do check-in on FB from time to time.

It is great to see so many of the veterans here. I cannot thank you enough for all the support you all give everyone - new or old here.

Just really wanted to check in to refocus. Carbs are getting to me - I think mainly from stressors. Also occasionally have Diet Coke, which I had stopped which I do think triggers carbs and other bad habits. I actually think the Diet Coke also makes me retain water - hadn't ever thought of that before, but I think it does. Anyway - luckily I am still at goal, but in my mind my range has been 130-135 and while last fall I was at low end, 128-132, now I am hovering around 134-136 one time I was 138!!! From all the years I have lost weight, I always ignored the advice of, "drawing a line in the sand and if weight goes to XXX then immediately start to get weight off". Well, that is what I am doing. I do not want my couple of pounds to turn into 10 or 20 or more.

Anyway - I am in process of getting a grip. I'm also training for a half-marathon which is a great stress reducer and lots of fun! I cannot believe how much I love my sleeve and my new life. I don't want to mess it up!

Thanks everyone!

Topic: RE: Good Morning. Don't sell your WLS short
This is really an interesting post.

I usually tell people if it comes up that I had VSG, but I also go to Weigh****chers meetings for group support and I have not said anything in the meetings there. Just have not wanted to deal with it. I keep kinda a low profile there.

In one of my surgeon's group meetings I went to shortly after my surgery, a lady from OA was there. She had WLS and had gained much of it back. She talked about how she starting "nibbling" crackers, cookies, etc. and everything slowly came back on. I thought at the time, early on, oh that won't be me. That has kept in my mind, and now that I am 19 months out, can see how that could happen. It is SO EASY to fall back into comfortable habits. I am still at goal weight, but on the high end of my goal (135 is goal, I had been hovering at 129-132 last fall, but now anywhere 134-136) - so I am planning on buckling down.

Anyway - didn't mean to ramble, am going to post about this on another post without hijacking this thread.

Great discusion!

Hi,

I haven't posted on here for awhile, but wanted to chime in on Vit. D.

Before my sleeve, I was on Vit D as well, always low (don't have levels with me now), but after surgery, my levels have been high. Even critically high at one time. So, be careful and make sure they keep checking them. I only get Vit D from my calcium now, and my labs last week finally showed my D level at high end of normal.

Sounds like you are doing great! I remember being so excited for every advance on my diet.

Good job!

Hi,

I haven't been on here for awhile, but just wanted to post pics on here as I didn't on my year surgiversary.

I hope everyone is well. For people new here, I have to say this is the best I have felt in I don't know how long. My sleeve has changed my life.

Hi!

Yesterday was my one year surgiversary!!!

The sleeve is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I cannot believe how much better I feel. I am at goal, and plan to stay here.

I am still a work in progress that is for sure! I also am learning more each day on maintenance.

I will try and post some pics later this weekend - I am not too good at that!

Thanks to everyone here for the incredible support and knowledge that is shared on this board!

Hi,

You can do this! I will be one year out on Friday - cannot believe how the time has flown.

My NUT says 3 meals per day - no snacking and at around 6 or 9 months out they wanted me to stop my protein drinks. I do have planned snacks as well. It would be very hard for me to get my protein in (they want 60-80 gms per day - I feel better with 80-100) following that. I have 1 - 2 protein drinks per day - usually one for breakfast, and if I have another it is a lemonade or tea type drink I just have sometime during day in my water bottle.

I am lower than my original goal. I hover around 130 give or take a pound. I've lost approximately 94#. I never thought I would get here. It is a journey, for sure. I am so very, very happy that I had my surgery. I had the sleeve, not sure which surgery you are planning.

Best of luck. It seems like it takes forever, but once the time comes, time just seems to fly by!

Topic: RE: Maintenance Post
Hi!

Linda - what a great topic. Maintenance is so much a learning process for me, building on what I used to lose weight.

Victory: Tracking everyday. I realized that I have not been eating great recently, so am making sure I am getting all my protein (which I had been), but also getting in fruit and veggies.

Struggle: I am in grad school, and this summer is just driving me crazy. It has been crazy stressful, and I find myself reaching for my old "comfort" foods. I am working on this tho' so I don't backslide and start gaining weight. So glad for this place to come for help and encouragement.

Hi,

I just recently bought some small underware and couldn't believe they actually fit when I got them home! My bras were getting too big (I had been 42C and I hadn't been sized), my husband kept saying I was a 34B and he went and bought me a couple of bras & they fit! I have been kidding him how he knew my size - Ha!

I have kept many of my old PJ's cuz they are so comfy!

Thanks for sharing the funny story!

I wish I lived closer - I'd be having dinner at your house!

I haven't decided today what is for dinner. I will be studying all day for midterm tomorrow. Ugh.

Topic: RE: Stories of people with BMI of 36-38
Hi and welcome!

My BMI was 40 (barely) when I first went to surgeon, never figured what it was the day of surgery, but lost a little bit prior to surgery.

I had the VSG and like MacMadame, didn't want to deal with the malabsorption problems. My surgeon does require his RNY and VSG patients take the same vitamins, etc. I was extremely nervous about having surgery and after doing a lot of research here, and asking if people had regrets, etc, I decided to have the surgery. I believe this is one of the best decisions I have made. I have lost 94#, below my fantasy weight of 135#, at 129.8 last week (I weigh in at Weigh****chers weekly for my "official" weight - I weigh daily at home, will be going there today to weigh in). I never thought this was possible.

Like others have said, read, pray and find the best surgeon in our area & if you decide to have surgery you will be fine.
