Hi!
Thanks to everyone for all the instructions. Yes, the surgeon's office said not to lose weight because my insurance approval was very iffy due to BMI barely 40, and no co-mobids. I have lost about 8 pounds since my original consult with doctor.
I have started walking, need to be more consistent with it. I also have been working on reducing carbs, haven't totally cut them out yet.
How have you all cut out caffeine & Diet Coke? I am slowly switching to Snapple and water, but not there yet.
Also, I keep researching, reading, everything I can find.
Thanks again!
Lynn

Topic: RE: One month to go! Any advice???
Hi,
I just realized that one month from today is my surgery date! Wow, I cannot believe it.
Tomorrow my husband and I go to my pre-op class, but I was wondering if you all have any advice for this last month? All along this process I have been told not to lose any weight (although I am down a few pounds from my starting weight) because of insurance, so I have not done the liver reduction diet, like other patients that were in my supervised weight loss classes.
I know I will learn more tomorrow, but any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
Lynn

Topic: RE: How to load profile pics? Always says mine are too large?
Hi,
I have been trying to put some type of pic in my profile and never can get them to load, saying they are too large. Does anyone know how to make them smaller?
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Reactive Hypoglycemia...hmmm..
Hi,
I have not had surgery, but will be having gastric sleeve. Does this also happen with gastric sleeve??? I could not tell from some of the articles that I have read if it is exclusive to RNY???
This may be a deal breaker for me if there is a problem down the road with gastric sleeve. Not sure yet though.
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Surgery probably in July!
Hi,
It's been awhile since I've posted. I've had my preops and they were fine. I am still so scared for surgery. I am going to meet with the medical bariatric doctor as well just to see my options there. My daughters (adults) are not very supportive about my having surgery.
Anyway, surgeon is to give me a date in July as I'm taking graduate classes and that works best for me.
Just wanted to check in and say HI.

Topic: RE: How to get samples?
Hi,
I just was approved for surgery - don't have date yet, but someone mentioned I should get protein drink samples? How do I do that? Is there a company that provides them?
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Submitted to Insurance!!!
Hope all goes well! My insurance was approved very quickly (it was submitted last week & I found out Monday - got written approval in mail today!)
Maybe we could be "buddies" - hopefully will have surgery in May - they thought May 30th would be around time it could be scheduled. They called to schedule my pre-op testing - which will be May 9th!

Topic: RE: Insurance approved!!!
Thanks to you all! I had been told not to lose anything until they submitted me to insurance. I've lost 9#. I am a little nervous about surgery, keep thinking I should be able to do it on my own. Earliest surgery would be would probably be around 5/30.
Excited & scared!!!!

Hi,
They submitted my insurance last week, and I just happened to call today to see what the insurance coordinator thought my chances were and she said she had just gotten off the phone with insurance company and I'M APPROVED!!!
She said they will call me next week to set up testing, etc, and surgery date! :)

Topic: RE: Received a message - was submitted to insurance today!
Hi,
Well, I received a message that my file was submitted to insurance today. Fed BCBS. I am not sure if I will be approved or not - they need 2 yrs past weight and although I've been about the same, I've been more like 38 or 39, not over 40. I guess we will see what happens.
Meanwhile, I have been following low carb/Atkins (although today I have not stuck to plan, but didn't go crazy) and am finally starting to lose some weight. The doctor's office had said that I was not to gain nor lose weight, and no one could tell me what to do at this point so I just started my own low carb.
Love all the support on this forum. Hopefully will find out soon one way or another!
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Question on post-op diet
Hi,
At my last weight loss meeting, the nutritionist said that for about the first year we will eat 500 calories. That seems like such a small amount for such a long time. She also said maximum calories we will ever have is prob 1000-1200.
Does that sound right? Does the 500 slow down the metabolism at some point. Does the surgery help with all this?
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Any regrets on having surgery???
Thank you! I am 53, my daughter is 26.
I am hoping to have the sleeve - I realize the research is not back yet on long-term success, but the research indicating surgery in general helps keep the weight off is one reason I am hoping I am able to have it.

Topic: RE: Any regrets on having surgery???
Hi,
I was talking with my daughter today and she kept saying, "why would you have surgery - you know you can lose weight if you just eat right and exercise".
In my head I know I should be able to do those things, but obviously for whatever reason I cannot do those things. I just know I feel horrible the way I am and really want to get this weight off once and for all. I have struggled with weight issues since I was a little girl and am hoping this will be a tool that I can use to get it off and keep it off.
So my question - are you all glad you had surgery? Did you have people kinda making you feel bad for opting for surgery?
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Will be submitted to insurance now! Now the wait begins!
Thank you - I asked the coordinator and she said they will use the highest weight - which I am thinking is from this year at 40.3.
We will see - I have decided I will appeal if it is denied, or they have a medical program that I may try. I would really like to have the surgery tho'.
