Peps
on 6/17/25 1:54 am

I came up to the bar/lounge this morning after breakfast for some quiet time. I had forgotten there is a glass blowing talk and demonstration scheduled to begin around 10. The place is packed! Oh, well... Fun to people watch a bit. There are 185 passengers on board. I'm still seeing a few new faces each day.

I had such a fun time yesterday. I loved visiting the Würzburg Residence (palace) and walking around the Altstadt. I stumbled across a men's store during the tour. After the tour was over I went back with Ron (who was taking in the Würzburg cathedral). I found some lovely shirts by a German label. Fabrics and patterns were very much me. So, I left Würzburg with three new shirts - big, bold patterns and great fits. Best part of the shopping was speaking German with the woman who was helping us. She had a good eye and appreciated an American speaking the language.

Luckily, Ron was also able to find a shirt that he liked and was really flattering to his figure. He started out trying on some shirts that made him look like a stick figure with a ginormous beer belly - just fitting his belly, but big and drapey around the neck and arms. Not a good look. I was afraid he was going to get really discouraged and get in a mood. He is feeling distressed by his size.

I will take some photos of the ship (and food for Diane S.) today and post on TT. I'll try to put a photo of my shirts here.

Breakfast "felt" big today. 2 poached eggs, each on a triangle of toasted white bread. About 30 minutes later I had a small bowl of muesli with some fruit and nuts. Probably still not much more than 500-600 calories, but eating like that feels a bit decadent. I don't believe I'm over eating, but it feels a bit unsettling to eat the way I'm eating. Perhaps that's the eating disorder speaking.

After lunch we'll dock in Bamberg. Another walking tour. I do wish there was a small gym on board - especially with the leisure time built in to the cruise. I feel a bit sluggish and would enjoy a workout.

Hoping for better than a turbid Tuesday for all those suffering from June gloom!

118.8 - the gym scale was around 1-1.5 pounds heavy. I thought so!

Nice shirts! I imagine Ron is probably dressing like my DH was to try and hide his belly but then he looks like he is wearing an oversized maternity shirt. Now that he is smaller, they are actually comical on him so it is nice to see him wear some shirts that fit. Like my DH, Ron will have to find his own way. Though mine has resisted the meds, I think if he gets off the rails and starts to regain that he might be willing to try them. Hints of that during some discussions lately.

We had a smooth trip home yesterday. The weather in Aruba was of course the best we had in our 16 days there as we were leaving. We were home half an hour earlier than we thought our best time would be. My wiggly little Justice was thrilled to see us and snuggled all night. We are going out soon for a morning walk down to the beach.

Today is supposed to be drizzly but start improving tomorrow. I don't mind it today as there is lots of laundry and food shopping to do. DS who was here with Justice is staying through the week so we are going to my old town to have dinner with SIL tonight. DH is trying to golf with a friend mid-day but I guess it depends on how drizzly it gets.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Love the shirts Peps! I wouldn't expect such colorful shirts, perfect for California, in Germany. But then I remembered that Germany does impact global fadhions. Isn't it fun to speak your other language? When I speak Portuguese, it feels a little bit like singing.

Glad your trip home went so smoothly Liz. DD said they've had lovely weekdays in Boston, but it inevitably rains or is overcast on the weekends.

DH has a new hobby buying Tommy Bahama shirts off eBay and Poshmark. I like it! Liz, that's your DH's preferred brand if I'm remembering correctly.

Yesterday I got up at 8am, had my slow start, then DH and I went to work out. I found all the retired people ~ they were at Planet Fitness. Past summers it's not been crowded at 10am, but it was raining and Monday, so maybe everyone decided to get their work out done. It felt good to push and pull some weights. I took it easy because I didn't want days of soreness, and I think I hit the right spot.

After, DH and I stopped at the grocery store and I needed to keep reminding myself I did not have to rush through like my hair was on fire. This shift in time perception is going to take a bit. But there I was in the grocery store, relaxed enough to have a laugh with DH rather than acting like I'm storming the beaches at Normandy. Then I finally settled in with the NYT Sunday paper. Later I cooked dinner! Leftovers today. The sun is out, so maybe we'll even be able to eat on the deck. I bought a new tablecloth :) After dinner we went to the Wake for DHs friend's spouse. And then I did some straightening up of my office. It feels much nicer when I walked by it this morning.

Today we will go to The funeral Mass, and I will work out. Since the weather is nice, I suspect DH will probably go for a bike ride. After I work out, I'll do whatever strikes my fancy!

Great way to get good Tommy Bahama shirts. DH has a good variety bought over many years so doesn't need more, but my BIL used to get nice shirts that way. DH wears them for casual but slightly more dressed up than a golf shirt. The biggest appeal for him is not having to tuck them in LOL.

125 lbs.

Happy posts so far this morning -- weight lower than expected after a two-week holiday in Aruba, cool new shirts found in Deutschland, and retirement is rewarding and sounds lovely for both our freshmen retirees. :-)

This bloody site has eaten two phone-initiated posts I've attempted in the last few days, so I'm typing this on my iPad instead and hoping for better results.

Our weekend drive down to Alabama to look a nice used car we were considering buying was terminated halfway down there when the dealership called to say that the car had been sold the night before. C'est la vie.

My weekend also included a long Sunday of prep for a Monday morning colonoscopy. You all know the drill. The colonoscopy itself was really a good experience--that commendation needs a little explanation. Monday morning at the colonoscopy unit was (as I'd expected) a popular time slot for colonoscopies. Everyone on the team was competent and pleasant, even entertaining (a plus, given what they and their patients go through), and the results were incredibly detailed (more so than any results I've ever seen before). I've seen all the pix taken during the process and now know what a polyp really looks like (I had one little bitty one--now removed), hemorrhoids (not serious, but not surprising), and (this was surprising) a bit of diverticulosis. I'd never imagined I had that, but have since learned that almost everyone over the age of 40-50 has some of the "O-sis," although not necessarily the "I-tis." I don't have the I-tis, thank goodness, but the doc's recommendations included advice to eat more fiber.

Trying to get a fiber gold star this morning, I ate 2 cups of berries with my morning yogurt and just had avocado toast for lunch. I even logged it all into My Fitness Pal (something I've not done for years) just to learn how I'm doing. Turns out I'm 3 grams OVER my daily requirement of fiber, so maybe I overdid it a bit.

We're cleaning up my car (getting it ready to sell) and going to rehab this afternoon. That's all I got. :-)

DH goes to a colonoscopy clinic where they knock you out completely. I really don't like going all the way under and I don't mind the semi aware state of sedation where I can watch the screen. It's kind of interesting, especially when you're higher than a kite.

Forgot to mention I got the knock-out version. :-)

I'm due for a colonoscopy next year and am glad to put it off. The procedure doesn't bother me (I have been partially out), but I hate the prep.

Nice shirts Peps! Glad you were able to find some fun clothes to wear in retirement! Hopefully you guys have room left in your suitcases!

So nice to be back home with Justice Liz! I know our dogs are always more than happy to have us back home, even if we have only been gone an hour! Great job at maintaining weight on vacation!

DD, your retirement days sound wonderful. You and I would do fine together on a trip. I too like to ease in to my day!

Ann, sorry the new car didn't work out for you. I just bet there is a better one waiting in the wings! Glad the colonoscopy report was good and the prep wasn't all that bad. I too had a report of the O-sis at my last colonoscopy. I now enjoy dried mangoes on the regular and they do indeed help keep me regular since being on the GLP1 meds.

Weight was 124.3 today. I'm having a busy day of appointments. Started off seeing my heart rhythm specialist and for the 3rd year in a row he had told me I'm the healthiest patient he had seen so far that day! He took me off my beta blocker since my blood pressure has been running quite low and makes me lightheaded.

Second appointment was to pick up my new glasses which I only wear when driving at night but had not had updated in I bet 10 years.

Third appointment was a haircut which felt long overdue but was actually right on schedule.

I still have a dentist appointment left at 3:20 today.

DH and I will go out for dinner tonight. Originally thinking pizza or sushi but Red Lobster has a Tuesday special on crab that we think we will go for. So many Red Lobster's have closed but ours remains open for now. Funny that RL used to be the celebration date place for Ben and myself (birthdays, anniversary etc.) The seafood is only okay (maybe even good for Wisconsin) but doesn't even come close to what you can get on the coasts!
