Sounds like a wonderful trip and a great time of the year to do it. I want to take my DD to Ireland at some point, but we need a break in our other travels. Next year might work in the fall.
Late starts are fine when you are retired. It took me a while to realize that if I didn't get enough sleep during a night or two, it isn't a big deal. You don't have to go to work and be functional and have plenty of time to catch up.

The Finger Lakes were my stomping grounds for four years. Most familiar with Keuka Lake, but Canandaigua and Seneca Lakes were frequented too ! Let me know if you need restaurant and activity ideas. Wine tasting for sure !!

Went to DC1s apartment and started to clear the clutter. They had 9 full sized bags of trash stuffed in a closet. I filled up at least another 4 and took it all out to the dumpster. Another 4 trips needed to get rid of broken down boxes and put in the recycling bin. They live in squalor, makes me sad. The cat was chasing something and I was sure it was going to catch a rodent or ****roach right in front of me! Thankfully she was just going after a toy! I only saw a few bugs, surprisingly and didn't see evidence of rodent droppings. Again surprisingly, since food scraps were everywhere. I brought home 5 garbage bags full of dirty laundry to do at home. I pray that adult child of mine gets some help!
Not much else has been done today. I'm still working on laundry. DH is napping due to vertigo symptoms again which is good because he was being an absolute grouch. Not sure if it was from the vertigo or if he is pissed about me helping out DC.
Have fun with pre wedding dinner with the parents Liz! Happy DH is there now to join you!
It's very disheartening to see our offspring struggle. For what it's worth, I totally agree with you helping them bring some order. They clearly don't want to live this way, but their mental health is complicated. If you can continue to help in a way that doesn't feel boundary crushing to you, what a gift you are giving them.
You keep on being a mama bear. Your DC1 needs your support. They seem to understand the need for help or wouldn't have asked for your help. I have a very close friend who is prone to living in extreme clutter. As a younger man I had a lot of trouble understanding her inability to keep house. Over the years, I have come to realize and accept that it is all part of her mental disabilities. Mental issues are so complex. From the outside it is really hard to make judgements that are valid, so I'm not sure I understand why DH would be pissed about you helping your DC1. Perhaps I'm missing something, or maybe DH doesn't understand the complexities of mental disorders. I think it is great that you continue to support your DC1 into adulthood.
Totally random question: Have you ever questioned why the pronoun chosen for individuals like your DC1 is they? It has always struck me as odd that a plural pronoun was chosen doe refer to an individual. I suppose "it" is too non-human.
Yeah, DH definitely doesn't understand Mental Health issues. I've had to school him quite a bit as his daughter suffers as well.
The plural gets me too. Hard to use when speaking of an individual. I wish there was a good 3rd pronoun that would take hold, but then again it probably wouldn't work for everyone. There is a Xe, Ze, or Per but they are not widely used. When DC1 is speaking about themselves they say We and I'm always wondering who the other person is!!
We have to help our children as much as we can especially when there is something going on that they can't fully cope with. I do applaud DC1 for asking you for help. Hopefully that will transfer to asking a mental health professional to help them.
I bet there are some good books to help explain DC1's issues (sorry that I can't recommend one). It is hard to understand somebody with a debilitating problem which one has never experienced and can't see.

Greetings all
Sunny here today. I was up early by my standards and am still dawdling over coffee and computer stuff. Peps you are no doubt mastering the fine art of morning piddling. It is such a joy to not have to keep checking the clock in order to rush off at the last minute. In a few I will be off to the gym and studio for my usual activities. The sweet peas are growing slowly and I wish they would hurry up. Need a sweet pea fix.
Yes DD we are in a sort of constant state of worry in this house. DH gets especially offended by the tv news. He really needs to get out and do something. We are plotting to get him to go to this choir at the university which always needs good singers. We shall see. He is doing his monthly laundry marathon where once a month he does all his laundry after he is down to one pair of socks. It really is hard to watch the news and see people rationalizing policies that are just plain cruel and inhumane.
The palace sounds great Liz. Rest up for the big event and subsequent partying. Bulls tails - I assume that is the same as ox tails which I have eaten once. Really quite good.
Paula good of you to rescue DC1 from all the clutter. Methinks such people just kind of procrastinate little chores until they turn in to giant ones that seem impossible. (sort of like our bedroom closet).
DD ****tails on the porch. How relaxing. You got this down!! And what a great trip you have planned for fall.
Peps what dogs are you bringing to Ferndale? Looking forward to seeing you. Will take pictures so you can compare them to last time.
Well time for me to get moving. My favorite treadmill awaits.

Sweet peas! Sound delicious.
There is no good news lately. We try to minimize time reading and watching the news (though we do so every morning) because there is so much that is going down a bad path.

Friends here is a link to a music video that our nephew and his college accapella group did for a contest 10 years ago. I hunted it down the other day for friends. Our nephew is the soloist wearing glasses. Worth a listen. DS
