Just received shocking news that the wife of a good friend of DH died suddenly. She had recently retired from being on the Board of Selectman in their town and they had gone on a couple of great trips. I think she was younger than I am. What a shock!

Everyone is completely self sufficient but you have never seen so much junk food on the counters, in cabinets, and clogging the fridge!
Safe travels!!!

10 people! Now that is definitely a full house. Hopefully they are a lot of self service types because that could get overwhelming real fast.
Well it's here. I've packed and repacked. Yesterday I did re open the Scotland suitcase and took out 2 summer weight sweaters so I could bring another pair of tennis shoes. I doubt I would wear the sweaters as the forecast is very cool and rainy. I think all systems are go. First stop Boston and then tomorrow night we leave for Glasgow.
I'm actually looking forward to airport food. We have very little in the way of groceries, so I ate poorly yesterday and I'm hungry for a sandwich or something more substantial. Also, today is shot day, so you know I'm a bit hungrier than usual. :)
Time to put the last items in the carry on!
117.6 - my same weight streak is broken.
Yesterday was a great day. The weather was perfect and going way out onto a beach in a car was very fun. We had a spot where there was a pond safe for the kids right next to us, but one could walk 50 feet to get into the open ocean water. DSD's nieces are absolutely adorable. The 6 and 4 year old get along great and have perky personalities yet are quite different from one another. The almost 1 year old baby is a bit in stranger-danger stage but still would smile and wave. She is just about ready to walk and kept letting go and balancing on her feet - in the sand! DSD's brother is a wonderful father and he and his wife are both very relaxed yet firm parents. Nice to see that. DSD has talked a lot about her dysfunctional family life with their mother and stepfather (her brother's father). She is really happy to see her brother have a good family environment.
We capped the day off with an amazing Italian dinner, then jumped on the 6:45 ferry and were back home at 8:30 to a house which hosted 4 dogs (ranging in size from 11 pound Justice to 80 pound Luna), and 10 people. With one bathroom! Cape Cod cottage living...
I leave around mid-day today to stay in Central Massachusetts tonight. I will meet DD and DSIL for dinner (though DD can only have liquids). Her surgery is early tomorrow morning. She had an iron infusion yesterday. Assuming all goes well tomorrow I will head back to the Cape late in the day.
Time to jump into the bathroom while it is empty! Have a thoughtful Thursday!

I truly don't know how our government can turn a blind eye to all these shootings and allow virtually anyone to have a gun. It isn't going to stop unless our gun laws are changed. Florida is an example of a state where I could go to a gun show and leave fully armed even though I have never shot a gun in my life. Theoretically a dealer can choose not to sell to someone so might not sell to someone obviously crazy but that really isn't control at all.
I told DSD about the Ninja Creami and she is very intrigued because she is trying to eat more healthy and drink healthy smoothies, etc. She is going to look into it.

I have kayaked in Florida in some of the wider passages but have done it with a leader who knows the waterways.

I just can't wrap my head around this. How could someone kill these innocent children, no matter what kind of hatred he felt?
Just an awful tragedy for the children, their families, the community, everyone.

I hope you made it home safely and are resting. Driving that long alone definitely wouldn't be something I would feel comfortable doing.

Yes, the islands are really beautiful and quite different from each other in terms of vibe (and different from Block Island). Bothe have beautiful beaches which vary depending on the side of the island they are on. But Martha's Vineyard has several towns that each have a different vibe. Oak Bluffs is sort of every man's town while Edgartown is more upper crust. Several of the other towns are mostly residential and very wooded. Nantucket is more cohesive in a way - more high end all the way around. And more of a feel of a seafaring feel.
Funny that you should comment on traveling without DH feeling strange. I am at that point too even though we have only been together for a few years. I used to travel for work and did some moving around alone the last year or so of deceased DH's life, but now I am used to being with DH most times. So when I am not (as will be the case when I go to Florida in a couple of weeks), it feels like it will be more difficult.

We are taking the kayaks! DH is afraid of the gators and wants to leave them behind! We will need to stick to the brackish waters!
