Cracks me up that your DH is always prepared with the latest and greatest gadget depending on the situation. My DH is the grumbly old guy who doesn't like any new technological or other helpful contraption (like a battery charger). My DH wouldn't even buy a new battery until they are all dead LOL.

We had a deck on my former Cape Cod house which had been installed without flashing. And the surface boards which were wood were too close together. So ultimately a lot of rotted deck boards and siding under and behind the deck. It cost a bit (though probably less than your repair) to get it all replaced and flashing properly added but it was definitely worth it in the long run.
That guy does sound creepy - was perhaps casing the neighborhood homes for ones without anyone in them for a possible future break-in? Hopefully everyone is vigilant and the cops pay more attention.

Is it a cost thing or just I can do it thing with you father? Elderly services in Massachusetts had a program when my mother was failing where she received support for light housekeeping, food shopping and laundry for free. The woman came twice a week and my mother really enjoyed her company.

Greetings all
Rain off and on today but not the major storm that was predicted. It may come tonight. DH has all our back up batteries charged which is good because power goes off around here when somebody sneezes.
DD glad to hear your mother is still hospitalized as it seems to be what she needs. Lordy chronic complaining (been there done that). Hoping that when she goes home and gets a little help that they get used to it and like it. That happened with my mom. Meanwhile enjoy your house to yourself.
Sushi Liz. Ever wonder exactly how it was invented? Who had the idea to roll up rice in seaweed? Oh well, it is all good.
Peps sounds like your dad is fairly advanced. But he is able to walk and feed himself, right? My grandmother got so she could not do those things. A terrible disease.
The house got cleaned today so all is well. I did my gym walk (waddle) and made it to the studio for a bit. Art show going up. I need to do some banking and other chores.
HOA drama CC. Don't blame everyone for being concerned. We used to have a lady down the street who was super watchful - even standing outside and visibly writing down the license plates of cars visiting a house that she thought was a drug house. Brave but kind of foolish. Hoping the roof drama can end soon. Interesting about the trex. Good to know. I may need a new deck one of these days. Home ownership is such an adventure.
Cheers. Diane S

Another early morning with roofers! The stucco has been removed and there was extensive damage to the wood where they had wrongly nailed the decking into the stucco with no flashing. They also sealed the drains and found neither were attached. Of course they weren't! So that's fixed. They still need to send the stucco guy and painter out, but first I will get a new estimate for two different options for putting the decking back. One involves removing a foot of the stucco walls all the way around (gag), installing flashing then putting the decking back in. That's "the right way". The second way involved sandwiching flashing in between boards and the wall with silicone to keep the water flowing away from the wall. And on top of all of that, they convinced me to submit a warranty claim for the dark brown Trex decking because it has turned white. So I started that, but am waiting for one last picture of the intact deck from the roofers to attach. I did have to call the Trex people and she could not have been nicer and more accommodating. It's the first product warranty in a while I've heard of where the warranty transfers to a subsequent owner. The roofers said they just redid a deck and the woman got 75% of the materials paid for by Trex. So that would be nice.
I also took a car load of stuff to the thrift store here that funds the local domestic violence sanctuary. That is a really big thing for me as I have struggled with where to donate "nice stuff". My friend took me to the thrift shop the other day and it gave me a good idea of what they take and sell. I think a car full of donations every week and I'll be excess-stuff-free in no time!
Hmm, what else, ooh, we had a scruffy weirdo follow a neighbor in the gate the other day after calling multiple people alphabetically from the gate entry system and not getting in. First he hid his car behind the mailboxes for 20 minutes before tailing a car through the gate. Another homeowner noticed him driving slowly around and around and she got in her car and confronted him when he was parked up the cul du sac from me. (Brave and likely not smart all at once). He said he was looking for his girlfriend, gave a name which doesn't exist in the neighborhood of 13 houses then gave a phone number that they traced to an 80 yr old woman in Phoenix. She chased him out and her husband followed and got his license plate, which was a CA plate. They called to report it to the sheriff and they looked up the plate and it is registered with no owner listed, which the sheriff said was highly unusual and suspect. Anyway, the hoa board is atwitter...
I got Wordle in 2 today! 69th time!
Hope you all are well. DD, sending good thoughts your way.
When she is at home, she cries that she is a prisoner, where she is served terrible food, (my Dad isn't a very good cook, so I try to stock them with food I've made to keep in their freezer) has no one to talk to, and my Dad is tired and crabby at night, so getting ready for bed is not nice. At the hospital, where she has food on demand from a menu (although it is the heart healthy menu, so low salt), a chaplain and other people to talk to, and help whenever she pushes a button, she cries because she misses my Dad, her cat, and just wants to go home. Yesterday, she was not begging to go home, so I think she had accepted if she stayed she might feel better in the long run. It's a smaller rural hospital, and it seems well staffed and she is well cared for as far as I can see. I am happy the cardiologist really pushed a longer stay. it gives my Dad a break too.
They will get 30 days of in home health care support: a nurse once a week, PT and OT also. Medicare will pay for that. But that doesn't cover the kind of service that would really help like housekeeping/laundry, and personal care such as helping her get dressed, or organizing her clothes etc. This is what they need to pay for, but my Dad keeps refusing to do, because he can handle it. And both of them are very weird about "not wanting people in the house". It is extreme now, but it was always an underlying current growing up: who could be invited over and who couldn't. I remember once I couldn't invite a girl in our neighborhood to my slumber party because my Mom said, I don't want her in our house. (I think she didn't like the girl's parents, the girl was harmless and I was allowed to play with her) So weird stuff like that. She might go home tomorrow or Friday. I'm enjoying knowing that for now, everybody is safe.
