6 Months and 9 days out.

Jun 19, 2009

I feel great. My lump ended up being nothing.

I have officially broken back through the 300 Mark. I am planning on working hard to lose another maybe 50 lbs between now and mid September so I can be classified as a over weight guy, as opposed to a morbidly obese guy.

I am very happy about how the surgery has gone so far. i am very happy with my doctor (Dr Vitello from UIC) and the medical clinic. That place is run very well. Smooth, I can hit 2-3 appointments in one day if I need to.Everything is just so smooth, it is nice......

Anyway, God Bless All.

5 Months and a little over week post op.

May 22, 2009

MAN, I can't believe all the weight I have lost so fast. I had a Doctor's appointment today. I have officially lost 166lbs so far.

I started at 486lbs and at 320lbs now. I am still have weight to lose, but I am down 166 POUNDS!!!!!! Woo Hoo. I will reach my goal within a month. (Goal 275-300lbs)

I actually bought a 2xl pair of shorts the other day. I was wearing 6xl last Christmas, and it isn't even summer yet!

I am thrilled to death!

Now for the bad news...... I found a big lump in my groin about 2 weeks ago. It is about the size of a golf ball right at the inside of the right hip, but on my groin. I didn't think anything about it, because the Doctor told me I may get hernias, so I thought it was a hernia. Well, it isn't. My Doctor checked it out, then sent me down to the radiology department to get it checked out via Ultrasound. Anywaqy, they ultrasounded the whole groin, and scrotum. I was told my testies looked good. (I told him thanks, and I am sure his looked nice too.) Anyway, The tech didn't know what it was, so he called in the radiologist. The radiologist didn't know what it was, so he called in a lymph and tumor guy. Anyway, They couldn't tell what it is. They want to do a biopsy on it. But they want to wait a month to see if there is any change in it first. I have my next appointment on June 19th. Please, pray everything is good and it goes away. Cancer does run in my family. Both grand fathers and my father all died (young) from it.

Hi, I'm still Dave.

HI

I went to the Doctor's office on January 2.  I found out I was 429lbs. That is a huge amount of weight to lose in 3 weeks and 2 days. (From 483 to 429, 54lbs lost).

I am still big, but my clothes are getting uncomfortable because they are too big. I am wearing sweats alot because none of my jeans fit well. I hate sweats. They make you look so sloppy, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I just started this semester at school. I have been trying to walk around the school. It is way too cold for me to walk outside. I am a weenie when it comes to the cold.

Plus since the surgery I have had cold hands and feet, which makes it worse.

I can really feel the weight loss. I can walk up stairs and around the school without being out of breath. My legs are looking pretty nice. There is no swelling in my ankles or anything.

It is nice.

I can't wait to get back to the Doctor's office to see how much more weight I have lost.

God Bless.

Hi I'm Dave.

Dec 27, 2008

Just thought I would introduce myself.

I am Dave. I am a 39 year old divorced dad. I am a single father of my son who is 14. I also have 2 girls who live with my ex-wife.

I am a retired garbageman. I worked for 13 years as a Teamster in the NW Chicago suburbs until I got hurt on the job (shoulder) so I took an early pension.

Now I am a full time student at NIU. I have a degree in Nursing and am working on a teaching certificate in special education, math, history, and sciences. Alot of my nursing classes went right into my teaching classes as far as biology, chemistry, and math classes. I like to consider myself a pretty smart guy. I maintain a 4.0 GPA in all my classes and am a member of a couple national honor societies.

I also drive a charter bus to pay the bills. I do a lot of work for the local schools taking kids to sports and academic competitions. I also take groups of drunk college kids out to parties.

When you go from throwing 18-20 tons of garbage a day to sitting on your butt all day in a bus or in a classroom you gain weight. I like to eat and eat a lot. When I was a garbageman I would hit the buffet everyday for lunch. I gained about 150 lbs since I retired from garbage work. I was overweight before then.

I started to look into a gastric bypass when I started to get close to 500lbs.

I got my RY on December 10, 2008. I weighed in at 483lbs on my surgery day. I got an open procedure because my MD said I was too big for a closed (LAP) procedure.

I am just over 2 weeks out and I don't know how much I have lost, but I am comfortably in clothes that didn't fit before the surgery. I believe I have lost 20-25lbs so far, but thats just a guess.

I am wanting to get down to 275-300 lbs because I am 6'5" tall.

I plan on re-joining the YMCA as soon as I feel good enough to get out.  I like to ride bikes. I just bought a new "fat guy" Specialized mountian bike last summer. I am looking forward to riding it this coming summer. Maybe with a couple less pounds I can ride more then 20 minutes at a ride.

I feel a little sick about all the time. I am not eating enough protein, but I feel a little better every day.

I am happy I got the surgery. I am scared about the future, but I am sure I will feel better in time.

I will post more when things change.

Dave
