Kim, I wish you well on your special day. You will do great. I had Lap RNY 4 weeks ago and feel terrific. I went back to work full time after 2 weeks and hope you do just as well. I would like to comment on the 6 weeks of clear liquids. Like others, I feel that this is too long to be on clear liquids, and I agree that Gatorade is absolutlely the wrong beverage to be drinking since it's full of sugar and will make you dump. I did clear liquids for 2 days, then in the hospital they started me on pureed. I have been on pureed for 4 weeks and now am starting to slowly introduce more solids. Please double check on these food guidelines with your nutritionist. Once again, wishing you all the best.

Hi Kim, Good luck in your surgery tomorrow! Hmmm.... Gatorade, clear juices, coffee and tea for the first 4 weeks post-op??? PLEASE check with your surgeon's nutritionist before you leave the hospital. The Gatorade alone (and juice) is FILLED with sugar and if this is really what your surgeon instructed, he/she is setting you up for a lot of dumping, vomitting, etc. I know that we are supposed to be following our surgeon's instructions, but when we are told to do something that is completely off, we need to stick to our guns that this is our body, and not the surgeons. It will will be YOU getting sick, not your surgeon. What will he say, "sorry"??? Please take care of you and ask again. If he insists on the Gatorade and clear juices then I would confront him and do what you need to do to keep yourself safe. And another question I'd want to ask for sure before he starts the surgery is just how much experience he has doing this surgery and working with bariatric patients. It is beyond me how surgeons can give such bad recommendations...
