9 weeks out, 55 lbs. down!

Feb 19, 2010

yesterday was my two month surgiversary!!! i am FIFTY FIVE pounds down! i love my sleeve!

i went to see my nut and had metabolic testing done. turns out my metabolism is dangerously low, which explains why i never succeeded in dieting.

so now i have a real plan. i know how many calories i need to have (my nut said 1200-1400! which seems so farfetched to me right now)

i'm eating real food now, so i'm trying SO many recipes. ive fallen in love with spark recipes. They have an application for iphone/itouch so y'all should really check it out! tonight i made slow cooker chicken tortilla soup. 89 calories/serving! its incredible. when i get the chance ill put it up here for all of you to enjoy!

recently i've also made mexican eggrolls (in wonton wrappers), a low fat low cal chicken fettucini alfredo, and sesame chicken!!! the sesame chicken is NOT breaded OR fried like most takeout is. but it tastes a million times better! and it takes maybe fifteen minutes to make a very filling and tasty meal!

God Bless you all! and have a happy weekend

6 weeks out!

Jan 29, 2010

I have been on soft foods for a week now, and last week i went to the NUT and gave me some meal ideas. I'm going back in a few weeks for a metabolism test and then we'll set my caloric intake.

i've been so busy with school (almost ALL night classes) it's been hard to do anything else.

i'm typically eating chicken and turkey in the food processor and some chopped up vegetables (green beans, broccoli) i'm also trying to get in some beans and laughing cow cheese for more protein.

i guess that's it! two more weeks of soft food until i can try the real stuff!

3 weeks post op!

Jan 07, 2010

I am three weeks out tomorrow! I got the EA Sports Active game and it has been kicking my butt!! it's a personal trainer game for the wii and it is just great!

I've been having a hard time getting protein in beause i havent gotten hungry or anything. Plus my back problems have almost gone away it seems.

i am down in the 270s!!! i'll update it for sure tomorrow.

i did a really stupid thing and had three sips of diet orange soda and had a semi-meltdown thinking i would make myself leak. but I don't have any pain and i'll keep an eye on it but i think i'm okay. I know it was a really stupid thing to do and i will NEVER do it again.

i really appreciate all the tough love i got from the post i put up. I don't really get that at home, and i'd get away with murder if I didn't have y'all. thank you so much

i'll update my weight tomorrow!

God Bless

FIVE days post-op

Dec 23, 2009

Sorry i haven't updated since my surgery, I just have not been feeling like it.

Okay so my surgery went amazing! It took about 45 minutes and I was wrong i didnt have nasal intubation it was an NG tube (nasogastric) so it went up my nose down to my stomach. gross! and painful. Anyway, surgery went amazing and there were no complications.

I started walking an hour or two after i woke up, and from then on I was walking pretty well. I was doing SO well that my doctor let me go home after ONE NIGHT in the hospital. ( he always makes patients stay at least 2)  I guess my age was working in my favor.

So I went home and rested a lot and walked around my pool a lot. Yesterday I got my drain out, and man did that feel weird! it felt like there was an alien or something inside me that was coming out lol.

I'm not hungry for the first time i can remember which is really amazing. I haven't been since I came out of surgery. But I'm getting down about 3 or 4 sugarfree popsicles a day and maybe 10-15oz of liquids a day so I think I'm doing really well.

Today I am FIVE days post op and 22 lbs down.

AND i'm not on pain meds anymore :)

God is good! and i'm so thankful for such luck with this procedure thus far.

God Bless!

Three days left!

Dec 14, 2009

I am absolutely terrified about my upcoming surgery. It is this friday!  I'm starting my full liquid diet today, but i'm just terrified about two main things. The jp drain and the nasal intubation. The jp drain is going to say in for a week after surgery and i think with the nasal intubation, well, i think they take that out after i wake up.

it makes my stomach queesy to think about things being in me for a while, like an IV or the nasal intubation or the jp drain.

For those of you that have had the nasal intubation and/or the jp drain (i've had an IV before), was it really awful?

Plus i'm really starting to get scared because I don't want to grieve over food. I had a "last supper" meal tonight and I know I shouldn't have but I am already feeling upset about it.

Maybe I'm just being silly but I'm just so nervous

Oh, and does anyone have a list of things that were really helpful to bring to the hospital? I've heard chapstick was a lifesaver but i'm not quite sure what else to bring.

Please give me any words of wisdom you have and send your prayers my way! I really need some help to calm my nerves :(

Next time I update will probably be after my surgery, but I will definitely check my messages.

pre-op testing done!

Dec 05, 2009

so i had my pre-op testing done on friday! ekg, chest xray, bloodwork, and upper GI. (i think i'm still burping up the industrial strength alka seltzer they gave me).

Everything turned out fine though, all the tests went well, but i'll find the results for my bloodwork at my pre-op appointment on Wednesday.

I can't believe this is so soon! my surgery is in 12 days!

I am a very high stressed individual to begin with so surgery coming up, plus studying and taking 4 finals all in the next 12 days is stressing me out big time. So i'm pretty sure i'll be living on klonopin and protein shakes until then.

Feel free to leave any words of wisdom!

Oh yeah and if any of y'all are youtubers my username is alangdon89. check out my WLS vlog!

God Bless!

back pain

Nov 09, 2009

so since ive gained the last 50 pounds, i've been having really bad back pains. Tonight is probably the worst of all. i've tried momentum, tramadol to numb it, and nothing.

it makes me realize how lucky i will be when i finally get my banana stomach. nothing has worked in the past so i will hope and pray this time it will work.

I don't know how much longer i can handle this pain.

i'm looking for some good supportive shoes. any ideas on what works best for back pain? and is still cute? remember i'm 20

I need some words of wisdom :(

Nov 01, 2009

So there's a book that my surgeon requires we read, its called living a lighter lifestyle or something like that. And I was reading about the sleeve and it said in restrictive surgeries like VSG, the average patient loses only 47% of their excess weight. while i understand that that is more than i could lose on my own thats still less than HALF of what i need to lose. I'm wondering if it's worth it? I try to find people a year or more post-op VSG but they're hard to come by. I know that the VSG is for me because I dont want to rearrange my intestine, but i'm worried I won't lose enough to make that much of a difference.

I'm only 20 yrs old, 5'9", and 300 lbs. So I need to lose 130. I am willing to work hard to get off the last bit of what i need to lose, but it seems like such a huge surgery to have if it doesn't give me the huge results. I don't know, maybe i'm just getting cold feet.

Anyone know if my age will effect how much weight I lose? I don't have any comorbities or anything. (spell check?) so I'm otherwise healthy..

I don't know, i'm just worrying a lot.

If anyone can help that'd be great. thanks so much!

God Bless
