This Thursday morning is the day.... I have gotten used to the pre-op diet, so don't struggle as much as I was in the beginning, but I am bored of it now and miss real food. 

I am as prepared as anyone could be for the surgery. There are times I feel really tough and this is going to be a piece of cake and then othertimes I just sit and wonder, what in the hell have I got myself into.....

One thing I keep telling myself.... barring complications.... I have not heard a single DS'er regret getting it....

Well, I have been doing the special pre-op diet for almost a week now and I have my 1 week pre-op appt today. I have been following it to perfection and am sure I have lost a chunk of weight. I am starting to get used to this pre-op diet which is good, because those first few days were brutal!!

Crazy to think that 1 week from today I will be knocked out and be in surgery finally... I have worked a year and a half for this and  feel like I am going to wake up thinking... "What in the hell did I get myself into..."...lol 

Well, I had my 2 week pre-op orientation this morning, it lasted about 3hrs and went through all the paperwork, nutritional instructions. I am really starting to believe this is happening. Got my 2 week special diet which I will be starting tomorrow. I also found out that i have gained 17lbs since I saw the surgeon in December, so they definitely want to see that reversed with the special diet in the next 2 weeks.

Also found out that I will have a private room, which is a HUGE deal for me... I am sooo happy that I don't have to share a room with a stroke patient....lol. When I had my gull bladder removed a few years back, I had to share a room with this 90 year old guy who had a nurse giving him an enema in the bathroom right next to my bed.... not cool!

To be honest I have such mixed emotions right now, excitement is the biggest one, but it is going to be such a life changing event for me, I am definitely dealing with apprehensions too. 

This Friday I go in to the surgeon's office and meet with nutritionist, trainer, counselors, etc for my 2 week preparation appt.  For two weeks prior to surgery I will be on an 800 calorie protein rich diet to prepare my body for the big day. I am a bit apprehensive about getting through the 2 weeks, but I can tell you that I am prepared for the challenge. Crank the Rocky music, strap on boxing gloves and train for the big day!! 

Finally!!! I have a surgery date scheduled for Feb 23rd!!! I had to physically drive down to the cardiologists office to get my results sent to the surgeon... but they got the results and got me scheduled....  3 weeks from today, I should be laying in the hospital, wondering what in the hell I have done....lol

Ok, so I heard back from my surgeon's office and my vitamin D levels are 52, which is perfect for surgery!! The only thing we are waiting for is for the cardiologist results to get faxed over to them. Since I saw the cardiologist a week ago, it should be today or tomorrow at the latest!!

Could I have a surgery date scheduled in the next 48hrs??? Of course, since the entire process has to drag for months and months, I can't get my hopes up... but I really want to get the surgery this month. However, even if it is the beginning of March, actually having the date scheduled will give me some peace that maybe it will actually be happening!! 

Ok, so I saw the cardiologist and got clearance from him for surgery. And I just got my vitamin D levels tested this morning. As long as that is high enough, I should be all set for a surgery date to be set.

This morning I woke up and discovered a favorite pair of jeans don't fit anymore, my weight is just ballooning out of control.  So frustrating, I cannot wait to get this surgery and get the opportunity to live a normal life, I really don't know what that will be like. 

Well, I decided to see if I could find any cardiologist in the state that will see me sooner than Feb 24th and found one at Spectrum on Feb 2nd!! So I got that scheduled and cut a good 3 weeks off my wait!!

Just need to keep up with the Vitamin D supplements and I should be all set soon!!!!

Thank you to everyone in my last post for the support!!! Glad to know that I don't update this blog for nobody to read it...lol 

I now have to get clearance from my cardiologist before they will do surgery, and of course the cardiologist can't see me until Feb 24th at the ABSOLUTE earliest, then I am sure he will want a bunch of tests which will take weeks to schedule....

I am hoping for March currently, but who knows....

I have read on this site that once you get your insurance approval everything moves forward very quickly.....I have worked on being perfect and methodic in my planning for this and just found out it is going to be a good 6 weeks before there will be a surgery.

The behaviorist didn't release me for surgery until yesterday, so they haven't sent the paperwork to the insurance for final approvals until today, even though I met with the surgeon before Christmas and got my first insurance approval Dec 2nd.

I also found out that my Vitamin D level is 14 and they won't do the surgery until it is in the high 40's and that can take a good month to happen....

Finally.... I had to call them to get this information....if I hadn't I guess they would have just filed me away and it would have never happened....

Sorry, I am very frustrated right now, this doctor I have is supposed to be the best in the area for DS's. But his office is sure dragging their feet and could care less if I get it..

Well, I am even more motivated now and I am going to show them my seriousness on this, even if that means they give me the surgery just to leave them alone!!
