First things First

I am pleased to say I haven't had a soda in more than 24 hours. Such a huge win. I used to drink Diet Coke all day long. A typical day consisted of 3-5 cans at work and then 1/2 of a 2L when I got home. For the last week, I have allowed myself only 1 can a day. My goal was to be completely off soda by the end of the year so that this was a non issue when it came time for surgery. Baby Steps! :)
Step in the right direction

Yesterday I won the chili contest at work. My prize was a shirt from my employer. I decided since I wasn't paying for it and I wanted to have a goal that I would order it in two sizes down from what I'm wearing today! Right now I am really focusing on finding a protein shake I like and trying different recipes. I know I am way ahead of myself because I haven't even met with the PCP. I'm just so freaking excited. I also am working on weaning myself off soda. Up until a month ago it wasn't anything for me to drink 8 cans a day or more. Right now I am down to 1 can a day. I am drinking mostly tea instead sweetened with artificial sweeteners. I only had one mini twix yesterday too. Considering it was Halloween I'd say that's pretty amazing. I used two scoops of protein this morning in my shake which totals 60 g protein. It wasn't so bad. It was chocolate whey with frozen strawberries.
Excited and possibly a little obsessed!

I have been considering WLS for several years. My insurance never covered it so I never really persued it. Then I find out my insurance now covers it. WOAH. New ball game. I'm so excited to think about the possibility of actually doing this. I have one friend and one acquaintance that have had this surgery done. I searched YOUTUBE for Gastric Sleeve and wow was I surprised to see all the video blogs. I am really researching all the ups and downs of having this surgery. I am obsessed with hearing every one elses stories. It gives me so much hope and encouragement. I am starting this blog today to keep track of how this process goes. Today I weighed and I'm 263. My all time highest weight was 283. Summer of 2012 I was down to 248. Such a frustrating rollercoaster. My appointment to visit my primary care is set up for next Wednesday. I'm hoping he will be supportive and refer me for this surgery. If he doesn't I will be very upset. I have made an appt to attend a seminar with the surgeon I believe I will end up choosing. I have all my paperwork filled out and I'm ready to get the momentum moving on this journey!
