6/17/10

Jun 17, 2010

Ok, so it has been awhile since I have posted.

It has been 3-1/2 months since surgery.  I am down 66 lbs after a 3 week stall.  My hair has started to fall out, but I have a ton of hair, so I am not stressing on that one - although it does shock me how much comes out each morning....lol.

I take my vitamins.  I take a Centrum Silver chewable, a B-12 dot, Caltrate chewable each day.  I probably don't take enough vitamins, but I at least take some!
My eating probably leaves something to be desired, but it is really hard to find anything to go down well.  I find that carbs go down the best for me - I pretty much can't keep any meats down.  They all make me sick!  FF seem to go down best - but don't blast me - I only get to eat a few.
I have found I don't like the taste of Splenda anymore.  I crave lemons and limes.  If I could drink soda, I would put down some Sprite!!  LOL   I have found that water hurts when it goes down - cold, warm, or room temperature.  Iced tea goes down very good though.  I have had to switch to sweet tea though - and I am sure that isn't great, but it is one of the only ways that I am getting fluids.
This week I have tried to have a protein drink each day so that I can up my protein since I can't get/keep meat down.

I also read somewhere that Lexapro (which I take) will keep you from losing weight - so that may have something to do with my slow losing - probably has more to do with me not eating 100% what I am supposed to!
Anyway - that is my update for now.  I am 4 lbs away from making my first major goal; getting under 200!

Post-Poned

Jan 23, 2010

Ok, so those of you who read the boards may know already, but for those who don't.... I was post-poned.

It wasn't because I didn't lose my pre-op weight or because I did something that I shouldn't have, but it was more about my meds for colitis.  I am taking a corticosteroid.  Apparently, steroids make your tissues "flimsy" and that is not good when it comes to surgery.
Of course, I broke down and cried.  I begged.  I pleaded.  I even tried to make a deal, but Dr. Ben-David wouldn't budge on his decision.  I respect him so much for that.  He said he didn't want to take that chance with my health.  I am glad he is not a surgery whore who would just cut you open just to get paid.

So, now I am stuck without really knowing when I will have surgery.  I never thought that I would be approved and sitting around with no date.  I actually never thought I would ever be approved!

You know - now it makes me wonder if this is a sign that I shouldn't have surgery at all.....hmmmm - great - something else to burden my mind!!!

Less-than-30-day countdown...

Dec 29, 2009

YEAH!!!  We are at about 26 days to go!!!!

I say "we" because both myself AND my husband (HurleyAHurley) are scheduled for surgery on Jan 25th!!!   Woooo HOOOOO!!
It has been such a long wait for something that we want so bad.  I can tell you it is much like wanting a baby - you try and try and keep getting nothing - then one day when you kind of get your mind on other things, BAM! it happens!!!

In a way, it almost seems like it has all happened so quick.
I lost my job on July 30th - applied for Medicaid and got accepted.  Then I found out what the requirements for surgery with Medicaid were, and what-do-you-know - we FREAKIN' QUALIFY!!!!  Now it is all a matter of being approved and getting in with the Dr.

Well, in Sept I find out that you can't see the Dr. until you attend the seminar.  So the next seminar was a couple of weeks away.  We went to the seminar and I started calling the office for my appt the very next morning.
I got our appt for Oct. 29th to see the Dr. and to do our labs.  Well, lucky for me, I still had several items from a previous attempt that we had made and got shut-down on.
So, I had the PCP referral  letter, psych eval, and some other labs that I needed.  We were sent for new blood work and the barium swallow test on that day.

The Dr. met with me and Adam seperately because he didn't want any influence either way on the Dr/patient interview.
We both went in with the intention of having Lap Band done.  He asked me what my expectations of weight loss were.  I told him about 75 lbs. and he said that was about right with the band.
He said Adam would lose about 100 lbs and me about 75 lbs and that "honestly" Adam would lose faster and more than me.
He told Adam to lose 15 lbs and me to lose 10 lbs before surgery.   We have both struggled with this with the holidays and having our food "funerals" and just plain binges!  We go in next week to weigh-in and see how we are doing and they will give us "direction" if we need it and offer any help they can to get us to what he told us to lose over the next 2 weeks when surgery is scheduled.

After talking with the doctor and mulling it over with Adam, we have both decided to have RNY instead of Lap Band.
This is pretty much where we are at in our surgery journey - I guess I will have to update more later because I am getting really tired and alot of my thougths are running together and others are just disappearing altogether!!!  LOL
