9 Days Post-Op

Feb 23, 2011

Today I met with my surgeon for my 1st post-op appointment.  I am 9 days out.  I lost 18 lbs. since starting my 2 week liquid pre-op diet.  I am very, very pleased with this.  I didn't expect to lose this much (I'm not used to losing large amounts, but then again I never had WLS before).  My BMI went from 43 to 39 and my jeans are getting a little baggy on me.

Since Sunday I've been in Stage Two of my eating plan which is full liquids.  It was a nice change from a week of clear liquids, that's for sure.  I'm having a fat free yogurt for breakfast, a sugar free pudding for lunch, and 6 oz. of creamed soup -like pea soup or tomato.  I wasn't too crazy about the cream of tomato soup but I've been loving the pea soup.  In between I sip water throughout the day and try to get 60 grams of protein by consuming Premier Protein shakes.  60 grams is my goal and I think I reached it once -today I only got in 30 grams.  Yesterday was the first day that I could drink water (cold or room temperature) without it hurting going down.  I guess the swelling is going down.

I'm still having gas pain and my stomach is still a little distended, but it is getting better each day.  I've been trying to walk, not only in the house but outside each day.  Today I walked around the block once and about double that 2 other times.  It's been pretty cold here so there were a couple of days that I didn't get outside but overall I feel good about the amount of walking I've done.  Sunday I went to a computer store with my husband and later to the supermarket with my sister.  I've been wanting to go mall walking but I haven't gotten there yet.  I also have some trouble walking for more than 10 minutes or so because it causes me some serious hip pain.  Hopefully as the weight goes down it won't hurt as much.

The day I left the hospital (Wednesday, Feb 16) my surgeon told me to take off my bandages on Friday but I was too afraid so I waited until Sunday (for the smaller incision) and Monday (for the larger one in my belly button).  I was sweating bullets but I got them off.

I am so happy that I did this and I look forward to what the future brings.
