Had my nutritionist follow-up this afternoon.

I shouldn't have been surprised by this, but I was:  the inevitable weigh-in.  Wasn't sure she would do it.  I now weigh 255 pounds, down 5 pounds from last month.

Then, after discussing my food journals, we came to the conclusion as to why I may have regained weight.  She told me I had not been getting in enough dairy, fruits, and vegetables.  We then discussed ways to work those into my current meal plans, even coming up with some sample meals.

All in all, a good appointment.   She wants me to go back on June 4 to follow up again.

March 5, 2013 - 4 years post-op

Mar 05, 2013

4 years ago this past Saturday (March 2, 2009), I had RNY gastric bypass surgery.   I don't regret for one single minute doing it.   I am struggling with a bit of weight regain, however.  The bariatric center says I am now 260 pounds.  That is up 8 pounds from last year, which was, in turn, up 7 pounds from 2011.   I am being proactive about it, because I want to stop the weight gain, and initiate more weight loss. I am going to exercise more, avoid my trigger foods (snacks and sweets), keep a closer eye on my portions, start keeping a food journal using the SparkPeople app for Android, and I even have an appointment for next month with a different nutritionist at my bariatric center (my original one no longer sees patients, since she was promoted to  the coordinator of the Bariatric Center).

Maybe keeping updates on here will also help get me back on track.

For my first day of using SparkPeople Diet and Food Tracker, it says I took in 1341 calories today.  My bariatric center recommends we stay between 1000 and 1500 calories a day.  So 1341 isn't too bad.

March 3, 2011 - 2 years post-op

Mar 03, 2011

Its been a while, and time for an update.

I had my 2 year post-op checkup today.  The PA I see at my bariatric center seemed genuinely happy to see me, and the progress I have made.

I weighed in at 240 pounds today, which is still exactly 100 pounds less than my weight during the pre-op testing.

She did encourage me to get out and exercise one or two more times a week than I currently do.

And, I think I convinced 2 people in the waiting room to attend the hospital's support group!

One more change is in the support groups.  I still go to two distinct support groups, 3 times a week.  I got involved in helping run the group at my hospital, too.  We have a speaker, usually, then divide into 3 groups (pre-op to 6 months, post, over 6 months post), and lap-band patients.  I lead the pre-op discussion group.  I feel the need to give back the help and support I got along the way.

March 2, 2010 - One year out!!

Mar 04, 2010

Well, I made it!!  FINALLY a year out!!!  Well, a few days past that now.

I took this whole week off from work, as my own personal holiday week.

I had my yearly follow-up at the bariatric center March 2, on my 1 year surgiversary.  I got weighed in, and I now weigh 243 pounds (with clothes on!).  Not bad!  I'm almost one hundred pounds down!

Now, I'm just waiting for the results of my bloodwork, to see if I am deficient on anything.

Also, at one year out, the PA wants me to get a bone density test done, through my primary doctor.  I hope there isn'tanything to worry about, there, too.

Today, I had my 6 month post-op checkup.  I saw the PA today.  She said I was doing great, and was happy with my weight loss and progress thus far.

I now weigh 255 pounds, down 85 from my Valentines Day pre-op testing.

I am now walking more, especially at lunchtime at work.  I even have rollerblades to learn how to use!

I know, I am just like everyone else, and have not posted in like forever.

I am 5 months out now (well, as of this past Sunday), and I am now weighing in at 265 pounds!!  That is down 75 pounds from my pre-op testing weight of 340 (tests done around Valentines Day), and 141 pounds down from my all-time high, some 20 months (or so) ago.

I just posted new pics from this morning, too.

And, had a major WOW moment this morning when getting ready for work.  With today being Jeans Day, I grabbed a pair of jeans out of the closet to get dressed.  A friend had, a month or so ago, given me 2 pair os size 42 waist jeans.  I put one on, and IT FIT!!!  A touch snug, but definitely bearable.  That has made my day!

June 15, 2008

Jun 15, 2009

I went to my PCP yesterday.  Although, I didn't see him, but I did see one of the office's PA.

I got weighed in, and, I am down to 273 pounds.  That makes me down 67 pounds from my pre-op testing weight, from mid-February.

She told me that most everything looks excellent.  My A1C (blood sugar) level is down to 5.7.  I never asked what it was before, so I have no frame of reference as to what it was before.  The only thing that worried her was the level of "good" cholesterol, which was almost half of what it should be.  She told me to get out and exercise more.

All in all, very encouraging.  I had been seeing someone in the office every 3 months, but she pushed my next appointment out 6 months.

May 12, 2009 - 10 week (2 month) follow-up

May 12, 2009

I just got in from my follow-up appointment at my bariatric center.

I now weigh 285 pounds.  From my pre-op testing weight of 340, that makes me down 55 pounds, and, from my high of 406, that puts me at 121 pounds, gone but not soon forgotten!!

I've graduated from the soft foods diet, and am now on the "maintenance" (or lifestyle) diet.  Basically, that was how I was eating pre-surgery.

My 6 month appointment is on September 14.

April 14, 2009 - Post-op visit #2

Apr 14, 2009

This morning, I had an appointment with Andrea,  my dietician, at the bariatric center.  I'm SO glad I am still seeing Andrea, because since the last time I saw her, pre-op, she was named bariatric center coordinator.

First was the obligatory weigh-in.  Accounting for the cloting (including jeans), I am at 300 pounds even!

She asked me how things were going, and I told her everything was going fine.  I told her I was walking as much as I can, and drinking my water.  I did tell her about my constipation, and what my PCP told me to do for it (mineral oil).  She approved, when I told her I was not doing it every day, but only when needed.

Then, she gave me the new diet - SOFT FOODS!!!  YAY!!!  I don't have to puree, and, for the most part, I am eating the same things as I did while on pureeds.  I can have cold cereal now, but only if it's SOAKED in milk.  I can have hamburger now, as well as tomato sauce, and canned beans.  Still can't do a lot of veggies like onions and green peppers, though.  Still, I can make one awesome chili, I'd say!

And, although I had to call her when I got home because I forgot to ask when i was there, she gave me the green light to start exercising again!
