Today is my first nutritionist appointment at the surgeon's office.  I am so excited to be officially beginning my WLS journey!  It is a bit scary, but my excitement is overpowering the scariness.

Will post more later tonight, after the appointment, or tomorrow morning.

The nutritionist scheduler called me today.  I have my 3 appointments all scheduled!  Plus, I have my psych eval scheduled, too!

My first NUT appointment is July 31, at 1 pm.  A 3 hour nutritional seminar, so I'm told.

Second one is September 8, at 1:30 pm.

Then comes October 6.  My psych evaluation is set for 10:45 am.  Then my third and final NUT appt is at 1:30 pm.  Both scheduled for the same day, to save on time and gas. :)

I went to the nurse at the weight management center I go to, which also happens to be a diabetes center, too.  The nurse officially told me I was a Type 2 diabetic, mainly based on the fact that I take 1000mg of Metformin.  I got a glucose meter to test my sugar with from her, too.

I suppose the thing I am concerned about is my weight.  When she weight me, I was 385!!!   So somehow, I gained 11 pounds!  I honestly didn't think I had gained weight.  I'm hoping its water weight, but that I am not sure of.  I do know I am watching what I eat as closely as possible, and not eating too much of the bad stuff.

I still haven't heard from the Bariatric Surger Center (http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/hh/services-centers/bariatrics/) yet.  Per their instructions, I know I am supposed to wait back for a call with my NUT appointment info.  But, its been 3 weeks since my info was mailed over from the Diabetes & Weight Management Program I attended, and I am concerned that my paperwork has gotten lost in the shuffle.  Of course, I also know it could be because one of the surgeons at the Bariatric Surgery Center is undergoing medical treatment himself, and thus, the other 2 surgeons in the office are swamped with extra patient coverage.

Still, all the same, I will give them a call tomorow, to checkup on things.

Monday, I had my abdominal ultrasound appointment.  The tech who did it was very nice, and had another tech with her training her on some new ultrasound equipment.  That tech asked what I was having the ultrasound done for, and I told her for WLS.  She had done  them before for WLS candidates, apparently, since she told me, unofficially of course, that she seemed to think that they would take my gallbladder when they did the surgery.  So, we shall see where that leads.

And, when I went to exercise, I checked on the status of my paperwork going over to the surgeon's office.  And, they were confuse dover which doctor it was going to!  Rest assured, I got that taken care of right then and there! lol

Now, it is a waiting game, to see when the surgery center calls back and schedules me for the nutritionist appointments.

I had my dietician consultation yesterday.  She says I am an excellent candidate for gastric bypass surgery!  She told my wife and I what to expect as far as the post op diets.  All new news to my wife, but old stuff to me.  She will fill out the proper paperwork, and will fax it over to the Bariatric Surgery Center soon.  Then, God willing, I will hear something quickly as far as getting into the new hospital system's nutrition program.  I am really on my way now!

The big thing is my weight.  From June 2 until now, I lost 6 pounds!  Before I got weighed, I was honestly thinking I had gained weight!  I am now 374 pounds, and I sincerely hope this all counts as the pre-surgery weight loss my insurance wants.

Well, tomorrow I have my last dietician's appointment at Untiy Weight Management here in Rochester.   Then I do believe its shifts over to Highland Hospital, and their Bariatric Surgery Center.  They required me to see their dietician before they would forward my records to the surgeon's office. Such is life switching between hospital systems.

Also, on the 30th, I have my abdominal ultrasound.  And, my PCP has sent his paperwork off to the surgeon already.   So, soon I should be hearing from the surgeon to see what track I have to go through with THEIR dieticians and nutritionists.

I am on my way!

It's kickoff time!

Well, it's finally kickoff time!  I am officially pursuing weight loss surgery.  I would like to get RNY surgery.

I had my 3 hour seminar 2 days ago.  My doctor, Joseph Johnson, was very informative, and took time to answer everyone's questions.  He really seems like he cares about his patients, and that he is very approachable.

I've already scheduled my abdominal ultrasound (to check my gallbladder), and sent my PCP the requisite paperwork to fill out.  Since I am changing hospital systems, I need to get one more dietician appointment out of the wayt with my "home" hospital system, in order for them to fax my paperwork over to the bariatric surgery center.
