It had progressed from acid reflux to major reflux and not being able to keep anything down at all! Even water. This was mid-September. I went to my Dr. and they couldn't access my port. It had flipped again! He was going to empty the band to see if that would help. He suspected a slipped band was the main problem. In the meantime I was losing about 7 lbs. a week and very dehydrated.
I had a fluro a week later and discovered the obvious (slipped band and flipped port). The Dr. said, if it was a matter of just the slipped band, he would repair it. But for the port to flip a second time in less than year, we would most likely be looking at another future surgery. When he repaired the tubing (leak) and the flip before, he noted there was very little scar tissue. He said unfortunately due to the lack of scar tissue it would be hard to keep the port in place.
When surgery was performed on 10/8, he removed my band. He said no scar tissue had formed yet again.
The good news is that I am not only at goal, but 30 lbs. below goal. It has only been a week and a half, but I feel very confident that I will be able to keep the weight off. I log in my food diary every day, get a lot walking in and feel I can continue to eat healthy. The bad news is that I feel empty and weird not having my band. Even though before the problems, I had practiced great eating habits, I still feel odd like my security blanket is gone? Very hard to put into words.
Well, everyone please wish me luck and pray for my continued strength to stay on track :)

Unfortunately, my son and daughter-in-law had a miscarriage. It was very sad and disappointing for them and the rest of the family. They hope to try again in a few months.
Everything else is the same and has not changed. Everything considered, we still need to count our blessings.

Well, reached goal on the 15th. Very happy about that ~ what am I saying, more like thrilled! LOL!
Hubby was laid off work on February 5th (our wedding anniversary), so its been a trying time. I'm still part-time and having trouble finding more hours anywhere, and as of August of this year, the school I work for will be cutting us an addditional 12 weeks a year! But I know I'm not the "lone ranger" in all of this. Just pray and stay strong. It could always be worse.
On a bright note, a very bright note, our son and his wife are expecting their first child in October! Verrrrry thrilled about that!!
All and all, life is still very good :) and we are very Blessed!

Things have been buuussssy. Hubby was dropped to 32 hour week in August. At first it was like ~ great, a day off. But it quickly snowballs and ouch!! I work part time (3.5 hrs) per day and have tried finding a full time job or more hours, but so far no luck. We just keep telling ourselves at least he still has a job ~ for now, at least. You have to be thankful for what you have.
I do have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. My family is healthy and happy. I have now lost 80 lbs. and am ecstatically happy about that!!!! I love my band!
08/11/2009 Been Gone Awhile
Aug 11, 2009
Well, I've been off the radar for awhile. I finally had my port replacement on 5/28/09. Now, I am getting back in the groove of things. Fortunately, I hadn't gained any weight since all this started back in October, 2008 in fact I actually lost an additional 5 lbs. prior to having my surgery. Since my surgery I have lost 6 more lbs. I just received a fill last Wednesday ~ so I'll be back on the loser's bench again!
Thanks for all your support.
4/15/09 Received Port Revision Date
Apr 23, 2009
Well, I had an appointment today for an adjustment (fill). It was taking such a long time to get my insurance approval for my port replacement that I called my Dr.'s office and asked if I could get a fill in the interim. He said since it was a slow leak I could. While I was there I spoke with the insurance dept (at doc's office) and asked for an update on the status of my approval. They had yet to hear from my insurance company and placed a call to them while I waited. Well, it was approved (I wonder how hard they tried) and my date is scheduled for 5/28/09. Almost exactly 1 year from my surgery. Well, I can only say that I am anxious to get this done and get back to losing again. Fortunately, I haven't gained any weight back, so I am still at the 65 lbs. mark.
Wish me luck :)
3/4/09 Well, Guess Again - Or Should I say "Here We Go Again"
Mar 06, 2009
Fortunately, I haven't gained any weight during this time (haven't lost any either). I had no restriction and "fell off the wagon" a few times. He brought me back to 6cc again and right now I have great restriction. So.......

In the last 5 years, she has lost her Husband (cancer), one son (heart attack), second son (brain aneurysm) and she is only 68 years old.
When she was recently diagnosed, and she told my Mother, Mom cried. She said my Aunt said "Patricia, why are you crying?, I'm the one with the cancer" She was laughing when she said this and has been nothing but optimistic and says she will beat this.

On the weight loss for Nana, I have lost 11 lbs. since my last fill on 12/10/08. The first 8-9 lbs. came off within just a few days, but the last couple has been much slower. I have my appointment on 1/29 for the fluro to see what is happening with the fluid level. It appears that I have a leak probably in the port area (see previous posts) but what is confusing is that I have had great restriction since the last fill and don't need any adjustments at this time. Needless to say, I am REALLY at a loss as to what is happening with me. I hope they will be able to see something after this Thursday???
