5 years Since RNY

Sep 26, 2014

Another year has blown by. Doing really well, labs are great, Dr says my nutrition is perfect. Feeling great when I eat right. So much depends on the food choices I make. Eat well, feel well.

4 years since surgery! WOW

Sep 26, 2013

It's my 4 year surgiversary! Where has the time gone? I'll tell you, I've been living my life! It's amazing that four years after my RNY surgery, I'm still learning how to live with my tool. But all in all, things are going well. I've had a modest regain, which I'm told is normal, but I definitely don't want to go any higher and seem to have found a maintenance weight that I can live with. I'm exercising 4-5 days per week which includes running, weights, and aerobics. I just entered my first bike race and am excited to see where that leads.

It's my 2nd Re-Birth Day!!!!!!

Sep 26, 2011

It's been two years since i had RNY WLS. I lost a total of 92 lbs, but never quite made it to goal. My lowest was 162 lbs, but at around 15 months post op i gained 10 pounds. That also is about the time that i added more breads (carbs) and a few sweets back into my diet. For the past nine months i have stayed between 173-177. I'm doing pretty good there. Wearing size 10-12 pants and large tops. Exercising 5-6 days a week and even running! Ran my first 5K and 1/2 marathon this year! 2 yrs ago i never would have even thought of walking that far. My knees and feet would ache too much. Now with the weight gone, i can enjoy whatever activity i want to. This surgery gave me back my life! I feel good in my own skin again!

I'm still learning what i can and can't eat. Too many carbs give me a whoosie feeling and make me sleepy (carb coma). I still dump (which is a good thing) so i really limit the sweets and high fat foods. I'm not going to lie....sometimes i'd really like to pig out on a donut or cookies, but that's the old me. I have this wonderful tool to keep me in check.

After 2 years i'm into a routine and feel like a normal sized person. I eat a normal portion of food which sometimes seems like a lot, depending on what it is. I can eat a lot of salad, but give me some meat and not so much...LOL

For any of you newbies out there that are doubting your decision, just give it time. Everything starts to resemble normalcy around 6 months and keeps getting better from there.

Don't forget to take your vitamins!!

Best,
Sherrie

1st Half Marathon

Aug 29, 2011

Yesterday was the Dirt Inspires Half Marathon Trail Run. It was so much fun, and some work. I was worrying about completing it, but was able to finish. The last couple of miles were brutal. I raced with a long time friend and that made it a lot of fun.

I'm just so excited that i did this!! Now for the next one : )

I'm a runner!!!

Jul 25, 2011

I ran my first 5K on May 1, 2011. Finished right about in the middle. My goal was to finish in under 40 minutes and i came in at 38+minutes. Yeah me!

so now i'm hooked. I entered a 1/2 marathon to be held on August 28, 2011. My training is brutal, but i'm getting there. Up to 8 miles now for my long run and usually running 3-4 miles twice a week besides.

Before RNY surgery, this wouldn't have been possible. It was hard to walk a mile. I thank my lucky stars each day to have been given the gift of surgery.

18 Months Post op

Apr 28, 2011

Boy does time fly. The past year and a half have been a breeze. Learning to eat healthier. Trying to remember not to go down those old familiar paths into carb overload, eat slowly, wait 30 minutes to drink. Most of these things are ingrained in my brain now, but boy do some of the old habits die hard. My NUT has a saying that we don't have surgery to stay the same. So why is it that I keep wanting to eat those same foods (mainly breads & crackers). Some other posters have mentioned having to really watch what they eat for fear of gaining the weight back and I can totally relate. I've put on 10+ pounds since December. The weird thing is that i gained 5 pounds in one week...two times....and this was when I was making a huge effort to journal every bit of food, and was mostly eating under my calorie allowance for the day. I guess my body just decided it wanted a few pounds on it. But I'll show it who's boss!!! I'm still determined to get into the 150's. I'm not as far away as pre-op, that's for sure.

Now for some fun stuff.

I entered a 5K race in Monterey this Sunday. I'm so excited!!

Still wearing 10-12's

Enjoying life.

17 months

Mar 25, 2011

Today marks 17 months since i changed my life. Some of the changes have been hard, while others are easy. It seems much easier now to live a normal post WLS life. I don't have to worry so much about what will work and what won't. I stay away from fried and surgery foods. I have been struggling with some recent weight gain and i'm praying that it doesn't mean that i'm not malabsorbing the calories already. Honestly, i didn't know before my RNY that it would end, i thought that part would be forever. Live and learn.

Some days i wish i could eat like i did pre-wls...the good ol' days? I don't think so.

I still get happy every time i look in the mirror at my new smaller, healthier, and fit body. Life is so much fuller. I'm not exhausted when i get home from work. I signed up for my first 5K run. Life is so much more enjoyable now. Not embarrased to go places. It's these things i think about when i'm struggling with the impulse to eat. I never really thought i was addicted to food, but i sure found out after surgery. It's all i think about....even now.

I'm still working on the 8 pound gain. Haven't lost any of it yet, but i will!

16 Months Post-op

Mar 04, 2011

I was really hoping to have something great to post for this month, but i don't. I managed to gain 8 pounds over the past 2 months and it seems to be going up instead of down. I gained 5 pounds in one week!!! I don't know how that was even possible. I am working at this everyday and the grazing/snacking is not helping me to lose any weight. I still want to get down to the 150's. I continue to work at this goal daily. It was easy the first 6 months, but like so many other posters have said, you have to work at it forever.

Here's what i'm still doing right:
I dump (thank God)
Exercising every day...no matter what.
Eating healthy foods 90% of the time.
Not drinking with my meals.

I still know what i need to do and wake up every morning with the knowledge to win this fight against obesity.

i'll get there.

15 Months Post-Op

Jan 04, 2011

My fifteen months post op landed on Christmas. Overall I'm still doing really well and exercising daily. What's not so good is all the extra grazing that went on during December. I was so excited to not gain over Thanksgiving, only to have a roughly 3 pound gain after Christmas. I had been bouncing between 162-166 and then bam...169. Must have been the Christmas pie & fudge my Mom made with Spenda!!! along with the crackers, dip, and multiple tastes of baked goods. I've known for a while that I was grazing too much and stepping on the scale and seeing an increase was a giant eye opener. I'm back on track eating healthily and not snacking or grazing. The scale is already being a little more friendly and the 3 extra pounds are gone. I know I can do this. My tool works just like it should.

The battle is in my head and I will prevail!!!!

Now on to some fun stuff. My Mom, Son, and Neice and I went to Disneyland after Christmas. That was a blast to fit in the rides, through the turnstiles, and be able to manuever through the crowds. 90+ pounds gone makes a huge difference in my quality of life and I thank my lucky stars to be fortunate enough to have gotten this surgery.

Hope to post some new pictures soon.

14 months post-op

Nov 29, 2010

14 months post-op as of the 25th. Not much has been happening in the weight loss area.  I stalled pretty good during the summer and then "bang" dropped 5 pounds. Now i've been hovering between 163-166 for the past 6 weeks. 160...are you out there? LOL I'm really beginning to think that this may be my new body weight, which would be fine. I'm going to keep on doing what i'm doing. Eat right, vitamins, not too many snacks, and exercise every day. I hope all is going well for my fellow losers and we'll see what happens next month.

Is anyone as excited as me to NOT gain weight over Thanksgiving?!?!
