Signed up for our new insurance - Blue Choice New England through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusettes. I went online and found their Gastric Bypass policy. It seems that they follow the Bariatric Association guidelines, so will hope that I will meet their criteria and be able to have the surgery.
Not sure about all the appointments being done prior to having the insurance. May have to repeat them...Will talk to Lori.

Notified Dianne (Group/ Clinical Coordinator) that I will not be attending GBP Support Group meetings until we sign up for our new insurance in May and find out about their GBP policy. I will miss seeing everyone, but will keep contact by email.

Received 2nd Denial letter from MaineCare. They state that they DO NOT follow the same Bariatric Guidelines used by the Bariatric Association or Surgeons. I am too healthy in their viewpoint to have the surgery. I need to have HBP, Diabetes, Respitory Disease, etc..... Basically the things I'm trying to avoid getting by having the surgery! Grrrrr......
Talked with Lori from the Bariatric Center. Will wait until we change insurance companies in June and try again. Will have to check into their policies to see if the surgery is covered. Still trying to be hopeful.....

Dr. Trieu submitted my appeal to MaineCare today. Lori faxed me a copy of the letter. It is a strongly worded letter and includes my elevated triglycerides along with my other comorbidites. Now we wait again....
Bloodwork Results

My bloodwork results showed that my Triglycerides are elevated more than before and are now 350. However my cholesterol total is fine. Will have to start medication to lower my triglycerides. This is a long term med unless I lose significant weight. Qualifying Comorbidity??

Had an appt. for my annual physical today. According to their measurements, I've shrunk an inch in height since last year. Not good. Will start taking Calcium to strengthen bones. Had bloodwork done.
Sleep Study

Had sleep study done in Augusta. I didn't sleep well, but they thought I slept well enough to know that I don't have sleep apnea. Isn't it sad to wish to have a problem so that you can have a surgery that will make you healthier in several areas? Crazy system...

Received Denial Letter from MaineCare today. They said I do not have enough "serious" comorbidities. *Ugh Lori from the Bariatric Center called and said that Dr. Trieu would file an appeal. He would also like me to have a Sleep Apnea test. Trying to hold out hope.

Final pre-op Nutrition appt. with Jackie. Reviewed food diary, pre-op and post-op requirements, diet phases, etc. Will see her again post-op to be sure I am getting enough nutrients.
